We are looking for an experienced and motivated senior Compute Platform engineer with strong Infrastructure Engineering experience who will be responsible for maintaining and supporting On-Premises platforms as well as Cloud Platforms, overseeing and ensuring that computing systems and equipment are operating effectively and efficiently. The availability, integrity, security and performance of our infrastructure will be your main motivation. The candidate should be detail-oriented, proficient with technologies and hardware. His/her responsibilities include upgrading and improving operating environments, creating repair strategies, and providing technical support and training for users.
To be successful in this position you will demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the industry’s best practices and evidence a professional track record of effective technical management, information analysis, and a thorough understanding of computer hardware and software systems. You have good communication and collaboration skills, and excellent problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with managed hosting services to deliver first class services and vendor support
• Managing core operating systems and virtualization platforms including upgrades, configuration and patching
• Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability and security. Coordinating technology installations, upgrades, and maintenance
• Testing, troubleshooting, and modifying information systems so that they operate effectively
• Administrator, build, and upgrade core business infrastructure including computing, storage, and disaster recovery systems
• Support the Data Protection solutions (Cohesity, Dell Data Domain and Zerto)
• Installing, maintaining and monitoring operating environments
• Provide 3rd level support. Troubleshoot infrastructure issues
• Provide technical expertise in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue
• Performing high level systems administration of on-prem and cloud infrastructure
• Ensure delivered solutions are handed off operationally with appropriate documentation (e.g. best practices, design documents, run books) required
• Manage incidents and requests across several disciplines (including, but not limited to) – Windows and Linux servers hosted on vSphere/ESXi and Dell Hyperconverged Compute/Storage
• Proactively monitor and resolve infrastructure service issues prior to escalation
• Documenting all reported malfunctions and actions taken in response
• Monitoring daily operations, including server hardware, software, and operating systems
• Generating performance reports for operating systems.
• Assuring all IT activities are performed within the parameters of applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
• Evaluating technology risks in order to develop a documented remediation action plan
• Remaining up to date with advances in technology and industry best practices.
• Participate in change activity that may be scheduled out of hours
• Support our On-Call rota
Required skills:
- VMware vSphere 7 to 8 (Installation, configuration, management, patching)
- Network Configuration (Cisco IOS, Nx-OS, vDS)
- Data Protection Solutions (Cohesity, Dell Data Domain, Zerto, Azure Site Replication)
- Windows Server 2016-2025
- Automation experience (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Ansible Platform, Bash, Python)
- Enterprise Compute and Storage Platforms (Dell EMC Hyperconverged Platforms, Dell VMAX, Isilon, NetApp)
- Change and incident management processes
- Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience supporting Cloud Platforms (Azure, AWS).
