The role:
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Risk Engineering team and help build the next generation of internal platforms that support risk, compliance, and business decision-making. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining full stack applications that combine data from Snowflake, AI infrastructure, visualization dashboards, and business logic integrations into reliable, scalable products used by internal business partners.
This is a high-impact hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who can operate across the stack, understand complex infrastructure, translate business needs into durable technical solutions, and mentor other engineers through strong architecture, code quality, and execution practices.
What you’ll do:
- Design, build, and maintain full stack internal applications that support risk, compliance, and business workflows
- Develop scalable backend services, APIs, and data integrations that connect application logic with Snowflake and other enterprise data platforms
- Build intuitive frontend experiences, visualization dashboards, and workflow tools that help business users interpret data and complete operational tasks efficiently
- Integrate AI infrastructure and AI-enabled capabilities into internal applications where they can improve productivity, automation, insight generation, or decision support
- Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand needs, clarify requirements, and deliver features that solve real operational problems
- Translate ambiguous business processes into clear technical designs, system workflows, data models, and implementation plans
- Own architecture and technical direction for complex application components, including infrastructure, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability
- Establish strong engineering practices for full stack development, testing, release management, monitoring, and operational support
- Mentor engineers across the team through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing
- Identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce operational burden, improve performance, and increase developer productivity
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including risk, compliance, data, security, infrastructure, and product stakeholders
What you’ll need:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building production full stack applications
- Strong backend engineering skills, including API design, service architecture, data modeling, and integration with enterprise systems
- Capable frontend engineering experience building user-facing applications, dashboards, or workflow tools with modern web technologies
- Deep experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, observability, deployment patterns, and operational excellence
- Hands-on experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
- Experience building data-driven applications, analytics workflows, or visualization dashboards for business users
- Familiarity with AI infrastructure, LLM-enabled applications, model-serving patterns, or AI workflow integrations
- Strong understanding of security, access control, data handling, and enterprise application design principles
- Proven ability to lead technical design for complex systems and influence engineering direction across a team
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through thoughtful review, coaching, and example-setting
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work directly with business stakeholders, clarify ambiguous requirements, and explain technical tradeoffs clearly
Nice to have:
- Experience in risk, compliance, financial services, lending, fraud, controls, audit, or regulated environments
- Experience with BI, dashboarding, or data visualization tools and frameworks
- Experience designing human-in-the-loop AI workflows, document intelligence systems, or business process automation tools
- Experience with workflow orchestration, event-driven systems, or data pipeline integrations
- Experience building internal platforms that serve multiple business teams or operational functions
- Experience with governance, lineage, auditability, and controls for data-intensive applications

What We Do
SoFi wasn’t built to be a bank. Or a technology company. We were built for one mission: help people achieve financial independence so they can realize their ambitions. Redefining an entire industry isn’t easy work—and it’s not for the faint of heart. It takes a certain kind of team. People with diverse perspectives and expertise, united by a common sense of purpose. People willing to challenge assumptions but always do the right thing. People proving that innovation and responsibility don’t have to compete, but can come together to create something truly unconventional in the world. For the last eight years, we’ve been charting this new path forward. We call it The SoFi Way. At SoFi, we don’t just talk about culture: we live it. The SoFi Way is how we show up every day, how we make decisions, and how we build for our members, clients, and each other.
