Summary Generated by Built In
Ro is a direct-to-patient healthcare company with a mission of helping patients achieve their health goals by delivering the easiest, most effective care possible. Ro is the only company to offer nationwide telehealth, labs, and pharmacy services. This is enabled by Ro's vertically integrated platform that helps patients achieve their goals through a convenient, end-to-end healthcare experience spanning from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care. Since 2017, Ro has helped millions of patients, including one in every county in the United States, and in 98% of primary care deserts.

Ro has been recognized as a Fortune Best Workplace in New York and Health Care for four consecutive years (2021-2024). In 2023, Ro was also named Best Workplace for Parents for the third year in a row. In 2022, Ro was listed as a CNBC Disruptor 50.

The healthcare system today is not designed to help patients achieve their goals. It’s designed around institutions such as hospitals and insurance companies. A patient centric healthcare system is one that is designed around the goals a patient wants to achieve. That’s exactly what Ro’s product design team is focused on building: goal-oriented healthcare. We’re building healthcare that puts patients in control, provides reactive and proactive care, has transparent pricing and process, is extremely effective and ridiculously convenient, and evolves over time based on patients’ goals.

We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to drive design strategy and detailed design execution across internal products that enable our physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and patient advocates to provide safe, high quality care to patients.  You’ll work side-by-side with other designers as well as product management, engineering, and clinical teams to design experiences of significant scope, complexity, and creative vision.

As we head into the end of the year, we’re focused on designing for scale—elevating both our systems and experiences. We're looking for designers who can thrive in a dynamic environment, get equally excited by small improvements and large strategic swings, and learn quickly in a complex, evolving ecosystem. Ideal candidates are flexible in the face of shifting priorities, understand and navigate technical complexities in close partnership with product and engineering, and deeply value both the craft and magic of interaction design.

We are a passionate group of designers who are empowered to make impactful decisions, owning all aspects of the design process across multiple surfaces. You’ll grow as our mission advances and our experiences become more sophisticated. This is an exciting opportunity to join a late-stage organization in a category ripe with limitless possibilities, a leadership team that fights for the patient, and a team that is excited to welcome a new design partner. Our organizational structure empowers designers to think holistically, not just in narrow, feature-specific lanes. Here, your voice will not only be heard—it will be expected. You won’t just be included; you’ll be fundamental.

Design matters at Ro because healthcare requires trust and people trust well-crafted experiences. Here’s how you’ll contribute:

  • Own and evolve the Ro Design System, ensuring it reflects human-centered principles, scales across products, and is trusted by designers and engineers.
  • Design, test, document, and advocate for global UI components, UX patterns, and usage guidelines that raise the bar for quality and consistency.
  • Lead end-to-end design on complex initiatives—from research and strategy through UX flows, interactions, polished visuals, and release.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our patients and healthcare professionals, translating qualitative and quantitative insights into meaningful, evidence-based experiences.
  • Make smart tradeoffs by balancing business goals, product requirements, and patient needs to deliver impact without sacrificing craft.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Clinical to shape strategy, scope work, and run experiments that drive learning and outcomes.
  • Inspire and influence teams and leadership through compelling storytelling, clear design rationale, and effective demonstrations of vision.
  • Coach and mentor designers, elevating both craft and collaboration across the team.
  • Balance systems thinking with pragmatic execution, navigating constraints while maintaining design integrity.
  • Champion a patient-centric mindset across the organization, advocating visually and verbally for user needs.
  • Contribute to a culture of feedback, innovation, collaboration, and no-ego teamwork.

It takes a special designer to truly want to change healthcare. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of experience designing and shipping high-impact digital products across web and mobile.
  • Proven expertise in UX, UI, interaction design, systems thinking, and design systems stewardship.
  • Strong product thinker who partners deeply with Product Managers to define and drive strategy.
  • A collaborative team player with no ego, who takes feedback well and uses it to elevate the direction of the work.
  • Deep care for the details — sweats the small stuff and advocates for design quality at every level.
  • Experience working in rapid-release environments alongside product, engineering, data, and research partners.
  • A track record of solving ambiguous, complex problems with elegant, user-centered solutions.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence at every level, from peers to senior leadership.
  • Portfolio showcasing design system contributions, complex product design, and evidence of impact.
  • Growth mindset: curiosity, skill-building, and continuous evolution of craft.
  • Deep curiosity about how AI can transform both the design process and the end-to-end user experience, with a drive to explore and apply emerging capabilities.

We’ve Got You Covered:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance + OneMedical membership
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO
  • Wellbeing + Learning & Growth reimbursements
  • Paid parental leave + Fertility benefits
  • Pet insurance
  • Student loan refinancing
  • Virtual resources for mindfulness, counseling, and fitness

We welcome qualified candidates of all races, creeds, genders, and sexuality to apply.

The target base salary for this position ranges from $198,900 to $234,000, in addition to a competitive equity and benefits package (as applicable). When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
