Job Description

We are seeking an experienced System Architect to define and drive end-to-end architectures for energy generation, storage, power conversion and grid-connected energy systems. The successful candidate will combine strong expertise in power electronics, energy infrastructure and power distribution architectures with the ability to work independently and translate market requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Working closely with customers, SSM, SST and Product Groups, the architect will define system architectures, develop reference solutions and support strategic Energy opportunities from concept definition through proof-of-concept and customer adoption.

This role bridges energy market requirements with Renesas semiconductor and power electronic technologies to deliver next-generation energy infrastructure solutions supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy ecosystem.

System Architecture Design

  • Define complete energy system architectures including grid connection and protection schemes (MV/LV).
  • Architect AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems including PFC, LLC, PSFB and bidirectional topologies.
  • Define Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), BMS architectures and microgrid solutions.
  • Design distributed energy systems integrating solar PV, wind, fuel cells and renewable sources.
  • Define architectures for distribution automation, substation monitoring, protection systems, power quality and DER integration.
  • Ensure compliance with grid codes, safety and reliability requirements.

Power Conversion & Distribution

  • Translate customer and market requirements into scalable system architectures and reference solutions.
  • Architect bidirectional energy flows for charging/discharging storage systems and integrating them into local grids.
  • Optimize system-level efficiency, power density, thermal performance and lifetime reliability.
  • Support development of solid-state transformer-based systems for high-efficiency energy transfer.

Strategic & Cross-functional

  • Provide system requirement documents (SRDs), reference designs, and evaluation platforms for energy applications.
  • Collaborate with utility operators, renewable developers, and storage OEMs to co-develop innovative power systems.
  • Track emerging standards, grid codes, and sustainability regulations across key markets.
  • Guide internal product teams, power IC designers, controls engineers, and thermal/mechanical experts to build fully integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic positioning in energy generation and storage markets.
  • Support customer engagements and technical workshops to capture application requirements and emerging market trends.
  • Collaborate with internal marketing, product management and engineering teams to align solution architectures with business objectives, technical constraints and development plans.
  • Engage with universities, startups, and consortia on next-generation power and energy technologies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in energy infrastructure, power electronics, power conversion and grid-connected systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture activities independently with minimal supervision.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • AC/DC and DC/DC power topologies (PFC, LLC, PSFB, bidirectional)
    • MV/LV power distribution architectures and protection
    • Battery energy storage systems (BESS) and battery management
    • Knowledge of grid codes, interconnection standards, and renewable Power semiconductor technologies (SiC, GaN, IGBT and MOSFET based systems)
    • Digital power control and energy management algorithms
    • Protection, metering and power quality solutions integration requirements.
    • Experience in system-level modeling/simulation (PLECS, SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, CFD).
  • Strong stakeholder alignment and cross-functional communication skill
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills (minimum B2, preferably C1) required to work effectively with global teams, customers, and stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience with energy metering, smart grid communication protocols (Modbus, IEC 61850, OCPP).
  • Familiarity with EV charging station architectures (AC and DC fast charging) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration.
  • Expertise in wide-bandgap (SiC/GaN) power systems and solid-state transformers.
  • Knowledge of energy orchestration frameworks, microgrid control, and digital twins.
