Overview

The Windows Ecosystem and Commercial Engagement team (WECE) is where Microsoft’s Windows vision meets the energy, scale, and innovation of a global ecosystem. We connect partners, customers, and engineering teams to turn strategic priorities into breakthrough experiences that reach people on every Windows device. Within WECE, Hardware Engineering Enablement (HEE) helps bring modern hardware innovation to life on Windows PCs—delivering the tools, guidance, insights, and engineering partnership that elevate device quality, performance, efficiency, and user delight across the ecosystem.

Power efficiency and battery life are fundamental to every Windows device, directly shaping mobility and the customer experience. Our team partners with OEMs, ODMs, silicon providers, and IHVs to evaluate device power behavior through trusted measurements, deep debugging, and data-driven analysis across Windows hardware and software.

We are looking for a self-motivated, innovative, and accountable Senior Software Engineer who can identify power regressions and root causes, interpret telemetry and trace data, and translate complex findings into clear, actionable guidance for ecosystem partners. In this role, you will influence design and optimization decisions, help partners make effective engineering trade-offs, and drive measurable reductions in power consumption that deliver longer, more consistent battery life across the Windows ecosystem.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Drive power-efficiency, Modern Standby, and battery-life readiness across a portfolio of ecosystem programs by defining targets, tracking key metrics, assessing risk, and driving measurable improvements.
  • Perform deep technical analysis of traces, telemetry, firmware, drivers, and crash data to identify root causes of power regressions, unexpected wake activity, reliability issues, and non-deterministic measurement results, and drive issues through resolution.
  • Establish scalable, repeatable power-validation methodologies, automation, and instrumentation—including system- and rail-level measurements—to improve accuracy, consistency, and readiness across hardware generations.
  • Advise OEM, silicon, hardware, firmware, driver, and platform teams on power design, optimization, and feature trade-offs, translating complex findings into actionable engineering guidance, program risks, and escalation recommendations.
  • Lead technical bring-up, workshops, partner engagements, and knowledge sharing for new platforms and Windows features, while promoting secure engineering practices and continuity across internal and ecosystem teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid communication, collaboration, and presentation skills in Mandarin and English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep, hands-on understanding of power management, including each power state, power-state transitions, and device/driver power behavior.
  • Outstanding troubleshooting skills especially for Windows debugging to diagnose flaky or non-deterministic measurement results.
  • Demonstrated ability to run partner-facing technical engagements (workshops, PlugFests, escalations) independently and drive for results.
  • Hands-on experience with ETW tracing and the Windows Performance Toolkit (WPR/WPA); familiarity with ADK/WAT.
  • Good command of AI tools and data analytical skills.
  • Prior collaboration with OEM/IHV partners.
