Job Title: Sr Advanced R&D Engr/Scientist
Location: Shanghai / Zhangjiagang
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr Advanced Eng/Scientist to lead the development of novel materials and technologies for the rapidly evolving electronic market. This is a critical role where you will leverage deep technical expertise and innovative thinking to identify, conceptualize, develop, and scale new materials solutions. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our technological roadmap and bringing disruptive products from the lab to commercial success.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Lead Innovation: Identify, conceptualize, and spearhead research initiatives targeting breakthrough materials technologies for electronic industries (thermal materials, dielectrics, adhesives, encapsulants, et al.). Generate novel ideas leading to patentable inventions and contribute to building a strong IP portfolio.
- New Product Development: Drive the entire technology development lifecycle – from fundamental research and proof-of-concept through material formulation, process optimization, prototyping, scale-up, and initial market introduction.
- Advanced Modeling & Simulation: Utilize and advance computational materials science approaches to accelerate development and deepen understanding.
- Experimental Design & Execution: Design and conduct sophisticated experiments, analyze complex data, draw robust conclusions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Problem Solving: Tackle complex technical challenges related to material performance, processing, reliability, and failure modes in demanding environments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing to ensure successful product development and commercialization.
- External Engagement: Stay abreast of cutting-edge research (academia, industry), evaluate external technologies, and potentially manage university or external research partnerships.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on industrial R&D experience in the chemical, materials, or advanced manufacturing sectors.
- Demonstrated track record of innovation and successful development of new materials or products, preferably within electronics, semiconductors, or related high-tech industries.
- Strong fundamental understanding of structure-property-processing relationships in materials.
- Proven expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving for complex material systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong collaborative skills and proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment.
- Intrinsic motivation, curiosity, and a passion for exploring and developing new technologies.
- High level of ownership, initiative, and results-orientation.
Preferred Qualifications (Experience in one or more)
- Computational Materials Science: Demonstrated hands-on experience in applying computational methods to materials challenges. Examples include, predictive modeling of polymer properties, failure analysis and lifetime prediction of materials systems, AI/ML-driven approaches for formulation design, optimization or property prediction and so on.
- Functional Ceramics: Experience in the development, processing, or application of functional ceramics relevant to electronics.
- Battery Materials & Applications: Experience with materials development for batteries and understanding of their integration and performance requirements in electronic devices or modules.
