About DAT
Job Application Deadline: 07/31/2026
About the Trucker Tools Team at DAT
The Load Tracking Team is the eyes and ears of the modern supply chain. We are on a mission to eliminate the "Where’s my truck?" phone call forever by building the industry’s most reliable, real-time visibility engine.
Our team handles the ground truth of logistics. We build high-precision tracking tools and seamless ELD integrations that turn millions of raw GPS pings into actionable data. By automating the flow of information between brokers, shippers, and carriers, we reduce friction and ensure million-dollar shipments arrive exactly when they should.
If you’re a curious, high-growth engineer excited about solving complex geolocation challenges and building the tech that powers the next generation of automated freight, you’re in the right place.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Software Engineer I with a foundation in modern PHP or TypeScript and an insatiable appetite for learning. In this role, you won’t just be writing code; you’ll be mentored by Senior Engineers to master the craft of building scalable SaaS solutions.
We aren't looking for a finished product—we’re looking for someone who is AI-forward and ready to leverage the latest tooling to accelerate their development and solve problems faster. If working with massive geospatial data and exploring the frontier of LLMs in logistics excites you, we want to help you kickstart your career here.
What You’ll Do
- Build & Learn: Contribute to Laravel monolith applications and microservices, moving from small bug fixes to shipping meaningful API features.
- AI-Driven Development: Proactively adopt AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to enhance code quality, generate unit tests, and explore complex logic.
- Collaborate: Partner closely with Senior Engineers to understand system design, participating in code reviews as a way to both learn and provide a fresh perspective.
- Modernize: Help us upgrade and scale existing projects, ensuring our tech stack remains cutting-edge.
- Document: Write clean, documented code that reflects a growing understanding of industry standards.
The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring
- The Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Languages: Proficiency in PHP (internship or 1+ year experience) or TypeScript
- The "Growth" Mindset: A deep sense of curiosity and a proven desire to learn new technologies quickly.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks.
- Modern Workflow: An interest in (or experience with) using AI tooling to streamline development and automate the "boring" parts of coding.
- Team First: Excellent communication skills and a desire to grow within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and a desire to learn query optimization.
- Exposure to Docker or containerized environments.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs.
- A "side project" or GitHub profile that demonstrates your passion for building.
Success Matters
A Software Engineer I will be successful in this role when they:
- Demonstrate Velocity: Show an increasing ability to complete tasks independently by leveraging documentation, mentors, and AI tools.
- Ask the Right Questions: Move beyond "how" and start asking "why" certain architectural decisions are made.
- Adopt Best Practices: Show consistent growth in applying SOLID principles and writing robust unit tests.
- Engage with the Future: Actively experiment with LLMs and AI coding agents to improve their personal workflow and team productivity.
