The Content Insights & Reviews team enables EG customers to make informed decisions when planning and booking their trips through traveler-generated reviews and feedback. We collect direct feedback from customers during and after their trip, and surface this high-quality, credible content back to travelers to help them choose the right destination and product. The collected feedback also provides invaluable insights on customer experience for Expedia and Expedia's Partners on where to focus to improve overall customer satisfaction. Our team owns the Unified Reviews Platform — spanning review collection, moderation (including ML-powered text and image moderation), publishing, notifications, and insights — powering reviews across BEX, HCOM, Vrbo, and COMET brands at the scale of millions of transactions.

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, and maintain highly available, performant, and secure services and applications — including clear low-level designs, API designs, and data models — for review collection, moderation, publishing, and notification systems that align with Expedia Group engineering standards.

• Own and evolve complex, mission-critical services end to end — from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support — writing high-quality, testable code with robust automated testing and CI/CD integration.

• Apply modern engineering practices and use AI as a co-pilot across the software development lifecycle to clarify requirements, explore designs, accelerate coding, strengthen testing, and improve operational excellence.

• Collaborate closely with product, design, analytics, ML science, and partner engineering teams to turn ambiguous business problems into simple, resilient solutions that deliver clear outcomes and can be reused across brands and domains.

• Design and integrate services, APIs, and data models so that high-quality review data and capabilities are easily consumable by both human users and AI systems, and safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions — such as review moderation models, sentiment analysis, and review summarization — that improve outcomes.

• Raise the bar for the team by performing deep code and design reviews, mentoring other engineers, sharing best practices (including effective and responsible AI use), and using data and metrics to guide improvements, reduce toil, and continuously enhance system resilience and traveler experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

• 8+ years of relevant professional experience building and operating backend or distributed systems at scale, with ownership of service or multi-service solutions and demonstrated impact across multiple domains or products.

• Proficiency in system design (LLD), API development, and data modeling within large-scale distributed environments, with strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java/Kotlin preferred) and associated frameworks.

• Demonstrated ownership of the full software development lifecycle — design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations — including experience with CI/CD pipelines, code quality practices, and production monitoring.

• Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, with an understanding of how to integrate such capabilities safely and effectively into existing systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience architecting and operating reliable, scalable, high-traffic systems on cloud platforms — including setting clear service boundaries, resilience strategies, incident response, root cause analysis, and performance tuning using data and metrics.

• Proficiency using AI tools and techniques as part of everyday software engineering work (for example, exploring design options, supporting implementation, enhancing test coverage, or analyzing production behavior), with strong judgment about when and how to apply them.

• Track record of leading technical initiatives that simplify complex systems, improve performance or reliability, or meaningfully increase developer productivity — such as evolving service architectures, improving API and data model designs, or strengthening observability.

• Practical experience integrating AI/ML-enabled capabilities into production services (for example, content moderation, sentiment analysis, ranking, or personalization), including safe data usage, model integration patterns, and monitoring model impact on key business and user metrics.

• Experience with event-driven architectures, notification/messaging systems, or content platforms; familiarity with technologies such as Spring, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and AWS cloud-native services.
