Summary Generated by Built In

Storable is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Marine and RV & Camping Divisions (Storable Marine and Newbook) and help build the software that powers the day-to-day operations of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, boat clubs, harbors, dry-stack facilities, service yards, rental fleets, RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, RV resorts, and other outdoor hospitality businesses. Our Marine platform, including Molo (marina, boat storage, and service/yard management) and Rentals (boat rental fleet and boat-club management), and our RV & Camping platform (Newbook), support the workflows operators rely on to manage slips and storage, sites and accommodations, reservations and online bookings, rentals, guest management, point of sale, payments and billing, customer, vessel, and booking records, digital waivers, contracts and agreements, service operations, housekeeping and maintenance operations, channel and OTA integrations, reporting, and other industry-specific needs.

This is a hands-on, full-stack role in both senses: you build across the backend and frontend, and you own what you build end to end, from architecture and testing through deployment, production operations, security, and performance. We run lean, without dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles, so the engineers who design a system are the ones who test it, ship it, and keep it healthy.

We are looking for an AI-native engineer and a force multiplier: someone who works through agentic tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor every day, builds automation that removes toil for the whole team, and applies rigorous judgment to everything AI produces before it ships.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Storable’s Marine and RV & Camping Divisions, you will develop and modernize the web applications that support marina and park operators and their customers and guests. This is a full-stack role requiring hands-on production experience in backend engineering with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, and frontend engineering with React and JavaScript/TypeScript. Thorough React experience is required.

You will own features and systems within your area from first design through production: writing reliable, maintainable code, making pragmatic technical decisions, building the tests, pipelines, and monitoring that let the team release with confidence, and responding when something breaks. You will also mentor other engineers and help raise the team’s standard for engineering craft and AI-enabled execution.

What Ownership Means in This Role

There are no dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles to hand work off to. Engineers own the full lifecycle of the software they build. Collaboration with shared platform teams is welcome where they exist, but ownership of the following is never delegated and stays with you and your team:

  • You own the architecture and technical design of the features and systems in your area, including design documents, tradeoff analysis, and decisions that support maintainability, scalability, and operating cost.

  • You own quality, including test strategy, automated unit, integration, end-to-end, and regression testing, and the release confidence that lets the team ship frequently and safely.

  • You own how your code reaches production, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, environment configuration, feature flags, and safe rollout and rollback practices.

  • You own production health for your systems, including observability, alerting, dashboards, on-call participation, incident response, and blameless post-incident follow-through.

  • You own the security of what you build, including secure coding practices, dependency and vulnerability management, access control, and careful handling of payment and customer data.

  • You own performance and operating cost, including profiling, query and frontend performance tuning, capacity awareness, and cost-conscious technical decisions.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and ship new features and products for Storable’s Marine and RV & Camping software platforms, working across frontend, backend, data, and integrations.

  • Deliver changes end to end, from technical design through backend and frontend development, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment to production, and post-release monitoring.

  • Own the architecture of your area of responsibility, making and documenting technical decisions and writing technical design documents for meaningful product or architecture changes.

  • Define and implement the test strategy for your area, writing and maintaining unit, integration, functional, and regression tests so the team can release with confidence.

  • Build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, deployment automation, and logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for the services you own, take part in on-call, lead incident response for your systems, and follow through on root-cause fixes.

  • Use agentic AI workflows throughout design, implementation, testing, and operations, and build internal tools, automation, and agents that remove repetitive work for your team.

  • Identify and reduce technical debt through incremental refactoring, modernization, and architectural improvements.

  • Troubleshoot internal bugs and customer-reported issues quickly and effectively, balancing speed with long-term code quality.

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, support teams, and other engineers through stand-ups, backlog refinement, design discussions, and retrospectives to turn business and customer needs into reliable technical solutions.

  • Mentor other engineers on engineering best practices, operational ownership, and effective AI-assisted development, and continuously evaluate new tools and AI-enabled workflows that improve productivity and quality.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of practical software engineering experience, including significant experience building and maintaining production web applications where reliability and customer impact matter.

  • Required: hands-on production experience in both backend development with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, and frontend development with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Required: thorough hands-on React experience in production, including component architecture, hooks, state management, API integration, and automated frontend testing.

  • Required: hands-on experience across the full software delivery lifecycle, including architecture and technical design, frontend and backend development, automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, and deployment to production.

  • Demonstrated ownership of production systems without relying on a separate QE, DevOps, or SRE function, including test automation, deployment pipelines, monitoring and alerting, on-call, and incident response.

  • Required: experience shipping at least one LLM-powered feature to real users in production, with the ability to explain your contribution, how the feature was evaluated, what failed, and how it improved. Experience using AI coding tools alone does not meet this requirement.

  • Required: concrete, measurable evidence of how your daily use of agentic AI development tools improved the speed, quality, or output of your own work and your team’s.

  • Strong ability to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting outputs blindly.

  • A practical understanding of software architecture, debugging, testing, security, performance, scalability, and technical tradeoffs.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break ambiguous technical challenges into clear, executable steps.

  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, and async updates.

  • A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through clear feedback, thoughtful documentation, and effective technical discussion.

How We Expect Engineers to Use AI

We expect engineers to be AI-native: AI is a core part of how you design, build, test, and operate software, not an occasional assistant. You should be able to point to specific ways your AI practice has multiplied your own output and your team’s. In this role, you will use AI to:

  • Run agentic development workflows with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor to plan, implement, test, and refactor changes across the stack.

  • Orchestrate multiple agents or parallel AI workstreams on well-scoped tasks, structuring context, instructions, and review checkpoints so the output is reliable.

  • Explore implementation options, pressure-test tradeoffs, and draft code, tests, design documents, diagrams, and migration plans that you then refine to production quality.

  • Debug unfamiliar systems, refactor legacy code safely, expand regression coverage, and speed up incident investigation.

  • Build internal tools, automation, and reusable AI workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work for the whole team.

  • Design and run evals for LLM-powered product features to measure quality, catch regressions, and decide when a feature is ready to ship.

  • Review all AI-generated work critically for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and product fit before it ships.

  • Share what works, including prompts, agent configurations, patterns, and pitfalls, so the team’s AI practice keeps improving.

We value engineers who know when AI can accelerate the work and when careful human judgment is required. Accountability for what ships always stays with the engineer.

Technical Experience

Backend development experience, thorough React experience, and delivery experience from architecture through automated testing, CI/CD, and production deployment are required. We welcome depth in the other technologies listed below, together with the ability to learn quickly and use AI effectively.

Primary technologies and tools may include:

  • Node.js, PHP and/or .NET for backend services and application logic.

  • MySQL, Postgres and/or SQL Server for relational data modeling, query design, and performance tuning.

  • REST APIs, including API design, channel, OTA, and third-party integrations.

  • React, with thorough production experience required.

  • TypeScript and JavaScript across frontend and backend code.

  • Testing frameworks for unit, integration, end-to-end, and regression testing.

  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling.

  • Observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident-management tooling.

  • AI-assisted and agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar.

Nice to Have
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases.

  • Experience working in SaaS products serving industry-specific operational workflows.

  • Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems.

  • Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, agents, or multi-agent workflows for engineering teams.

  • Experience designing evaluation frameworks or guardrails for LLM-powered features.

  • Experience establishing on-call, incident response, or release practices on a team without dedicated operations support.

Education

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is helpful, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced, high-caliber engineer with strong fundamentals, deep production experience, and AI-native fluency, who reasons through systems, debugs difficult problems, and ships reliable software across the stack.

You treat ownership as the default: you design what you build, test it, deploy it, watch it in production, and fix it when it breaks. You use AI to move faster and raise quality, and you hold its output to the same standard as your own.

You bring judgment, curiosity, clear communication, and modern execution speed, and you multiply the output of the people around you, helping Storable Marine and RV & Camping build better software faster while raising the standard for how our team uses AI and operates what it ships.

All applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in our Seattle, WA office.
