The Role
Block Information Security is an engineering-driven team focused on scaling security through innovation. Our Security Governance team designs and promotes frameworks and standards that safeguard customer data, elevate security considerations across the company, and simplify regulatory and compliance obligations.
Security Governance Partners act as trusted advisors, connecting engineering, security, and compliance leadership. You'll work closely with the teams building Block products and platforms to evaluate risks, balance business objectives with security needs, and help shape secure, scalable solutions.
You Will

• Serve as a security domain expert and trusted advisor
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Engineering leaders to align on priorities
• Collaborate with Security teams to develop core security services
• Help automate governance and compliance functions
• Translate security and compliance requirements into clear guidance for stakeholders
• Contribute to technical design discussions, evaluating security properties of systems and services
• Drive informed risk decisions and influence technical architecture
• Monitor evolving security, privacy, and regulatory standards
• Design and promote security standards and frameworks

You Have

• 7+ years in security roles within technology-focused industries
• 3+ years leading security projects or programs
• A strong technical foundation, including coding knowledge
• Curiosity, persistence, and a pragmatic approach to problem solving
• Familiarity with some of the technologies in our environment:
  • Languages & Frameworks: Java, Kotlin, Go, Python
  • APIs & Data: HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, SQL, Snowflake
  • Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, event-driven architecture
