Senior Product Design Engineer

At Rohlik Group, we are building the future of e-grocery for over a million active customers across the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Romania. We own our entire technology stack — from storefronts and apps to automated fulfillment centers and last-mile logistics.

Within the Customer Experience (CUEX) domain, we own every touchpoint a customer interacts with, from the homepage to checkout and real-time order tracking across web, iOS, and Android. Our five storefronts run on a single product spine with localized content, pricing, and brand layers. We operate as a deliberately tight-knit, high-performing team where a Product Owner, Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, two Product Designers, and a dedicated full-stack engineering team ship fast, iterate constantly, and take full ownership of the end-to-end user journey.

Most interface failures in e-commerce aren’t layout issues — they are communication problems: what is said, in what order, and on which screen. As Senior Product Design Engineer, you will own the end-to-end design of all customer-facing surfaces across five markets. You will also manage our design system, Maia (our AI shopping assistant), and provide the design guidance that powers our automated coding workflows.

• True end-to-end ownership: Lead the complete lifecycle of product design — from initial problem definition and customer research to shipped A/B tests and real-world performance analysis.

• AI-first execution: Rohlik is an AI-first company. You’ll own the interface design for Maia, our AI shopping assistant, and build the structured design system guidance used by AI coding agents to generate on-brand code without hand-coding interfaces.

• Direct customer engagement: Lead user research and usability testing sessions directly with real shoppers, rather than commissioning external agencies or receiving filtered insights.

• High accountability, low overhead: Work in a small, autonomous team where design decisions move straight to production and work that doesn't deliver measured impact is honestly reverted.

• Customer Surfaces: Own the end-to-end design and UX strategy across web, iOS, and Android for all core journey stages: homepage, search & browse, product pages, basket, slot selection, checkout, and order tracking.

• Design System as a Product: Own component architecture, design tokens, patterns, and documentation, ensuring our coding agents have precise design guidance to generate accurate interfaces.

• AI Experience Design: Define the interaction patterns for Maia (our AI shopping assistant), governing when it intervenes, how it presents information, and how it hands over to human support.

• Experimentation & Analysis: Drive hypotheses, prototype rapidly, and evaluate A/B test results objectively — scaling successful experiments and sunsetting features that miss target performance.

• Direct User Research: Conduct qualitative interviews, usability tests, and field research directly with customers to continuously uncover friction points.

• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Product Owner, Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, and your peer product designer, while providing design input to Commercial, Marketing, and Operations.

• 5+ years of experience designing consumer-facing digital products with a strong portfolio of shipped work across both web and native mobile (iOS and Android).

• Advanced Figma & Design System expertise: Deep, hands-on experience building, scaling, and architecting multi-platform design systems at the token and component level.

• Data-fluent mindset: Ability to read and rigorously interpret A/B testing data, distinguishing genuine impact from vanity metrics.

• Fluency with AI tooling: Practical experience integrating AI tools into modern design, prototyping, and design system workflows, along with a clear view of where conversational AI adds real interface value.

• User research expertise: Demonstrated experience designing, running, and analyzing qualitative usability sessions directly with end users.

• Strong product reasoning: Excellent communication skills in English (C1 level or above), with the ability to articulate the strategic and behavioral rationale behind design decisions.

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience designing production-grade AI or assistant-driven interfaces.

• Experience contributing directly to code at the component or token level.

• Background in e-commerce, quick-commerce, online grocery, or last-mile delivery.

• First-hand familiarity with how German customers shop.

• Fluency in German or Czech.
