What the Role Is
Babylist is hiring a Senior Planner to run the day-to-day execution of merchandise planning for our growing e-commerce business. You'll own Open-to-Buy and inventory planning for your departments, making sure the right products are available at the right time to hit customer demand and business targets. This is a highly tactical, execution-focused role: you'll spend most of your time working directly in our planning systems, managing forecasts, inventory flow, and vendor projections, while partnering closely with Merchandising and Supply Chain on the daily and weekly running of the business.
Who You Are
- You've owned Open-to-Buy at the department or category level and are comfortable managing day-to-day tradeoffs across sales, inventory, and margin.
- You're proficient in retail math, forecasting, and inventory planning concepts and best practices.
- You're an Excel power user who can analyze data, spot trends, and translate insights into clear actions.
- You understand vendor dynamics and are comfortable owning vendor forecasts, projections, and ongoing communication.
- You bring 6-8 years of experience in inventory or merchandise planning, ideally in e-commerce or retail.
- You're comfortable spending ~80% of your time working directly in planning systems, maintaining forecasts, inventory positions, and projections.
- You're highly tactical and execution-focused, able to juggle multiple moving pieces and priorities at once.
- You're a strong communicator who partners effectively with Merchandising and Supply Chain on day-to-day execution.
- You're adaptable, organized, and proactive, able to pivot quickly as the business changes and to spot ways to improve existing processes.
- You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and enjoy being close to the business.
- You naturally reach for AI in your work — at Babylist, every team uses AI daily. You're already using it to move faster and improve your output, and you stay curious about what's coming next.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Own Open-to-Buy for your departments, managing sales, inventory, margin, and turn targets through disciplined execution.
- Maintain and update forecasts in the planning system, keeping them accurate and aligned with current trends and business needs.
- Execute replenishment and order writing for your categories, managing the end-to-end order pipeline so inventory flows in line with forecasts, targets, and capacity constraints.
- Partner with Merchandising on day-to-day business decisions, supporting assortment execution and inventory strategies.
- Own vendor forecasting and projections, leading regular planning meetings with vendors to review forecasts, flow, and risks.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain on inbound timing, inventory flow, and near-term execution needs.
- Monitor weekly sales and inventory performance, flag risks and opportunities, and adjust plans as needed.
- Support pre-season planning by building bottom-up forecasts aligned to assortment strategies and budget goals.
- Prioritize top-volume and top-registered SKUs to maximize revenue, in-stock performance, and customer experience.
- Use data and AI-enabled tools to improve forecast accuracy, streamline execution, and cut manual work across day-to-day planning.
- Identify opportunities for process, system, or workflow improvements and bring recommendations to Planning leadership.
Why This Role
- You'll own Open-to-Buy end-to-end for your departments. This is real decision-making authority over sales, inventory, and margin, not a support seat feeding someone else's plan.
- This is a hands-on-the-business role. You'll live in the planning systems and see the direct line between your forecasts and what's actually in stock for customers.
- Babylist is growing fast, and planning is where that growth gets managed in real time. You'll feel both the pace and the impact.
- The planning function is leaning into AI-enabled tools, so you'll help shape how modern planning runs here rather than just executing a legacy process.
