Company Description

Ubisoft is a global leader in gaming with teams across the world creating original and memorable gaming experiences, from Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six to Just Dance and more. We believe diverse perspectives help both players and teams thrive. If you’re passionate about innovation and pushing entertainment boundaries, join our journey and help us create the unknown!

Job Description

  • Own and evolve scalable game systems (core gameplay, meta-progression, economy) so they support fast, low-risk iteration across a live GaaS title's full lifecycle.
  • Design systems, content frameworks, and configuration tools that are modular and data-driven, reducing the time and engineering dependency needed to set up new content, balancing passes, or feature variants.
  • Act as the technical bridge between Game Direction and Engineering: translate intent into technically grounded system designs, and surface feasibility, performance, and technical constraints early.
  • Audit existing systems, tools, and design-to-implementation workflows to identify inefficiencies or technical debt, and drive concrete, measurable improvements.
  • Own end-to-end design and delivery of major features/systems and be directly accountable for their efficiency, output quality, and post-launch iteration speed against KPIs.
  • Partner with engineering to define data structures, visual scripting frameworks, and tooling (Anvil Engine) that let designers configure and tune systems without recurring engineering support.
  • Confirm the impact of your work through live player data, KPIs, and analytics.
  • Produce precise, implementation-ready design documentation (system specs, data schemas, edge cases) that engineering can build directly from.
  • Provide technical design guidance to peer designers on system-specific questions (knowledge-sharing, not people management).
  • Align design direction across disciplines (programming, art, animation, UX) and communicate vision, decisions, and constraints clearly to stakeholders.
  • Iterate on design taking in consideration playtests, player feedback, and data insights.
  • Ensure timely delivery aligned with project goals, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Develop and maintain clear and actionable design documentation.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in game design with specialization in systems/technical design, including experience on at least one shipped AAA or AA title.
  • Track record owning a major system or feature end-to-end, from concept through live iteration.
  • Direct experience partnering with engineering on system architecture, tooling, or pipeline decisions.
  • Familiarity with GaaS live production environments and iterative, metrics-driven development.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Technical fluency: comfortable reading/writing code or scripting logic and discussing engineering trade-offs directly with programmers.
  • Proficiency with Anvil Engine (or equivalent proprietary engine) toolset, including visual scripting and data-driven design approaches.
  • Deep understanding of scalable systems architecture - designing systems that support rapid content iteration, live-ops cadence, and long-term extensibility.
  • Strong analytical mindset; able to define and track efficiency metrics for design/production workflows (time-to-build, iteration cycle time, power scaling, reward scaling…).
  • Ability to independently audit existing systems, tools, and processes and propose concrete efficiency improvements.
  • Excellent technical documentation skills - specs precise enough for direct engineering handoff.
  • Proficiency with game development tools (e.g., Jira, Hansoft, Perforce).
  • Solid understanding of production pipelines and development methodologies.

Nice to Have

  • Experience contributing to multiple projects or different phases of production.
  • Familiarity with large-scale game systems and content pipelines.
  • Experience improving team workflows, tools, or production efficiency.
  • Light scripting/programming experience (e.g., Python, C#, or engine-specific scripting).
  • Active interest in progression & game economy.

Personal Attributes

  • Systems thinker with an efficiency-first mindset; pragmatic about trade-offs between speed and polish.
  • Comfortable operating at the intersection of design intent and technical constraint.
  • Self-directed; owns outcomes and drives major features without requiring management oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for cross-discipline technical alignment.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Collaborative, empathetic, and team-oriented mindset.
