Senior Director, Tax Provision and Compliance

The Role
The Senior Director for Tax Provision and Compliance, reporting to the Head of Tax, is responsible for overseeing the global tax provision, compliance, and reporting functions at Block. This role ensures the organization meets all regulatory requirements while optimizing tax strategies to support business objectives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in tax accounting, regulatory compliance, and cross-border tax considerations.
You Will

• Lead the preparation and review of the company's global tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Oversee the federal, state, and international tax compliance processes, including income tax filings, estimated tax payments, and audits.
• Manage the tax accounting close process and ensure timely and accurate reporting of tax provisions in financial statements.
• Work cross functionally within tax to understand the company's current structure and proposed structures to optimize the company's tax position while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, and legal teams to assess tax implications of business operations and strategic initiatives.
• Maintain strong relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities to stay updated on tax law changes and their impact on the company.
• Identify risks and opportunities within the company's tax structure and provide recommendations for mitigation and optimization.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls and maintain proper documentation for all tax-related activities.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures by analyzing tax implications
• Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
• Oversee the identification, evaluation, and documentation of uncertain tax positions (UTPs) to ensure compliance with ASC 740-10 and related disclosure requirements.
• Ensure compliance with local country statutory tax reporting requirements and work with external advisors to timely file local country income tax returns.

You Have

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, MST, or JD preferred.
• Minimum of 12+ years of relevant tax experience, including tax provision and compliance roles in a multinational corporation.
• Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and US GAAP tax accounting principles.
• Strong experience in managing global tax compliance and reporting.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in tax software, ERP systems Oracle and Google Suite.
