JOB DESCRIPTION – Senior Director, Legal Affairs

Location: Los Angeles, CA USA

Division: Ticketmaster 

Contract Terms: Regular, Full-Time

THE TEAM

The legal team plays a crucial role in safeguarding Ticketmaster’s legal interests while supporting strategic business goals.

THE JOB

As Senior Director, Legal Affairs you will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of legal matters, negotiating and drafting contracts, and advising on business strategies.  You will have the opportunity to negotiate global deals involving a range of e-commerce applications including, but not limited to the following: sponsorship and advertising opportunities, technology integrations with websites, apps and social media platforms, retail pricing consultation services, and to shape the relationship we have with brand partners offering services in the live sports and music industries.  You will advise the business on legal matters directly affecting business development and be part of be a wider professional, dynamic, friendly, and experienced global legal team. 

Note that this role could be titled as Senior Counsel, Director or Senior Director, Legal Affairs based on the candidate’s relevant experience.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Reporting directly into the SVP & Senior Counsel – Legal Affairs, you will primarily be responsible for:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating all types of contracts, from complex, high-dollar value, commercial contracts, novel outbound services agreements, affiliate agreements, consulting services agreements and enterprise MSAs to standard technology license agreements, vendor and supplier agreements, procurements, insertion orders, SOWs, SaaS agreements, SLAs and NDAs. 
  • Working closely with business development teams to support our e-commerce distribution networks, sponsorships and brand marketing, ticket pricing services and travel experience offerings.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating advertising and media marketing deals (purchase and sale).
  • Developing and implementing best-in-class contract templates.
  • Advising business stakeholders regarding legal and practical issues related to contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Comfortably and confidently handling transactions without precedent and providing advice to internal teams on novel legal issues.
  • Identifying potential legal risks and proposing risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company’s interests.
  • Advising leadership on legal implications of business decisions and providing proactive guidance to minimize legal exposure. 
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide legal support and guidance in developing and executing global business strategies, with a consistent but locally relevant approach.
  • Managing the successful delivery of services by outside counsel.
  • Addressing questions and issues that arise from various internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW or TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • JD from accredited law school and applicable state bar membership in good standing.
  • At least 6 years of experience at an internationally/nationally-recognized law firm or in-house legal department; a combination of law-firm and in-house experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience leading negotiations with large global companies.
  • E-commerce, media and technology experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent contract drafting skills, including developing templates, structuring novel deals, and reviewing and negotiating multi-party agreements.
  • Nuanced understanding of general principles of law applicable to commercial practice in the e-commerce sphere.
  • Ability to explain complex legal matters clearly and concisely to non-specialists and advise the business and subject matter experts persuasively and with confidence.

  • Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability/creativity to manage complex contract negotiations, ambiguity, and dynamically changing business needs.

The expected compensation for this position is:

$208,000.00 USD - $260,000.00 USD

** Pay is based on a number of factors including market location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
