Role Overview
The Development Manager plays a critical role in supporting the success, productivity, and retention of New York Life agents within the General Office (GO). This position is responsible for implementing and facilitating agent development programs, training initiatives, performance management processes, and field development activities that help agents build successful practices and achieve business objectives.
Working closely with Managing Partners, Partners, and field leadership, the Development Manager delivers coaching, training, and development support while driving adoption of learning programs, business systems, and sales processes. This role serves as a key resource for agent growth by helping agents develop prospecting, sales, and business management skills that contribute to long-term success.
What You'll Do
- Facilitate agent development programs, training curricula, and learning initiatives by implementing NYLIC University programs, conducting Group Instruction and Drill (GID) sessions, and supporting ongoing professional development activities.
- Partner with General Office leadership to execute the Field Development System (FDS), including conducting Field Observation and Demonstration (FOD) sessions, supporting development planning meetings, and reinforcing sales best practices.
- Support adoption of business systems and technology platforms by training agents on NYL Central, Sales Central, Marketing Central, and virtual learning tools to enhance business effectiveness and client engagement.
- Promote sales initiatives, campaigns, and prospecting programs while collaborating with field management and Zone leadership to support business growth and achievement of General Office objectives.
- Lead National Prospecting Week efforts at the GO level to assure Agent prospecting activities are scheduled, planned and executed accordingly.
- Effectively train agents to gather names through prospecting process of referrals, social media mining, networking, community events, and center of influence development.
- Drive, monitor and assist New Org Agent retention and production efforts specific to Sales Central and Marketing Central at this time.
What You'll Bring
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Valid State Life and Health Insurance licenses and FINRA Series 6 and Series 63 registrations.
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and training capabilities in both classroom and virtual learning environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, organizational, and execution skills with a focus on achieving measurable business results.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience as a Development Manager, sales manager, field leader, or related role within the financial services or insurance industry.
- Proven success supporting agent development, sales effectiveness, and performance management initiatives.
- Experience conducting Field Observation and Demonstration (FOD) sessions and facilitating development planning conversations.
- Strong knowledge of New York Life products, prospecting strategies, business planning processes, and agency operations.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $60,000 - $85,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: No
Sales bonus eligible: Yes
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
