Job Overview:
The Senior Accountant, Power Segment serves as the primary accounting liaison between Power Operations and the Accounting organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting month-end close activities, and partnering with Operations, Commercial, Supply Chain, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable to drive financial accuracy, process improvements, and operational accountability.
The position requires a highly collaborative individual who can translate operational activities into financial results while ensuring compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in analyzing financial performance, resolving cross-functional issues, and supporting business decisions within the Power Segment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and analyze complex financial statements, ensuring they align with both GAAP and industry-specific standards.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analyses.
- Ensure financial results accurately reflect operational activity and business performance.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to the Power business. Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analyses.
- Analyze monthly operating results and provide insights on key drivers, trends, and risks.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial planning.
- Collaborate with Operations leaders to understand business activities, project status, equipment utilization, and operational challenges impacting financial results.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulatory requirements. Work closely with AR and Commercial teams to ensure accurate customer billing and revenue recognition.
- Review revenue transactions for completeness and accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, customer disputes, and revenue-related issues.
- Monitor unbilled revenue and support timely invoicing processes. Partner with Supply Chain and AP to ensure proper coding, approval, and processing of procurement transactions.
- Review purchase orders, receipts, and vendor invoices for accounting accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. (Master’s degree or CPA preferred.)
- 5+ years of accounting experience in the energy sector (experience with natural gas compression a plus).
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., IFS, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.).
- Advanced understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and cost accounting related to gas compression.
- Strong knowledge of the natural gas industry, equipment, and associated financial processes.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex accounting principles.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., macros, complex formulas).
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
