As an Underwriter I, you’ll evaluate merchant applications, assess risk, and make informed decisions that balance business opportunity with responsible risk management. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who will help you develop your expertise while contributing to decisions that directly impact the success of our clients and the business.
In this role, you’ll influence how new merchants join the Global Payments network by evaluating risk, identifying opportunities, and making recommendations that support sustainable growth. You’ll help create a secure payments environment, strengthen portfolio quality, and contribute to shaping the future of commerce through sound underwriting decisions.
What you’ll own
• Evaluate merchant applications and supporting documentation to assess risk and support informed underwriting decisions.
• Balance business growth and risk management by applying underwriting policies, risk guidelines, and industry best practices.
• Analyze financial, operational, and business information to identify potential risks and opportunities within new merchant relationships.
• Drive efficient onboarding decisions by delivering accurate and timely risk assessments that support an outstanding client experience.
• Identify potential fraud, compliance concerns, and operational risks that could impact portfolio performance.
• Strengthen portfolio quality by making recommendations that align with Global Payments’ risk appetite and business objectives.
• Partner with Sales, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure underwriting decisions support sustainable merchant growth.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance underwriting processes, controls, and decision-making frameworks.
What you’ll bring
• Experience in underwriting, risk analysis, financial services, banking, payments, fraud prevention, or a related analytical environment is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate information, identify risk factors, and make sound decisions.
• The ability to interpret financial, operational, and business documentation with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and the confidence to make recommendations based on available data.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to explain decisions and collaborate across multiple teams.
• A proactive and accountable mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Skills Required

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (or equivalent experience)
    • Minimum of 4 years related professional experience
    • Relevant experience in fraud, risk, or payments (may be considered in lieu of degree)
