As a Risk Analyst Student, you will support the Middle Office & Quantitative Analytics team in executing daily trade valuation and risk reporting activities, contributing to the governance and performance measurement of Irving Oil’s Commodity Risk Management (CRM) program. You’ll also assist the Quantitative Analytics team with model development, gaining exposure to both physical and financial trading operations.

The Middle Office & Quantitative Analytics team is responsible for the governance, compliance, and reporting of activities under our Commodity Risk Management program, which helps to stabilize the company’s cash flow by mitigating the impact of price volatility in the financial derivatives market. The program ensures that even when market prices fluctuate unexpectedly, the organization can still meet its financial targets. The team sits within our Home Office under the Governance, Planning & Risk department, and works closely with both the front and back office to manage contract documentation, monitor compliance, and report key metrics.

Responsibilities:  

  • Perform daily valuation of the trade portfolio by gathering data from various platforms and reviewing contract documentation

  • Support the reporting of risk management metrics to ensure CRM policy compliance

  • Assist with ad hoc process improvement projects to enhance reporting and data workflows

  • Review trading information across systems and internal documents to validate accuracy

  • Collaborate with the Quantitative Analytics team on model development and performance tracking

Your Skills:  

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Willingness to learn and apply new concepts in finance and risk management

  • Effective communication skills for working with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Basic understanding of financial principles

  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite; openness to learning programming languages

Your Experience:  

  • Currently enrolled in a Business Administration program completing 2nd or 3rd year of study with a strong interest in finance   

  • Must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and be returning to school

  • Compensation – The weekly salary for this role will be based on your current work term. 1st - $795, 2nd - $875, 3rd and additional terms - $960
