Role Summary

This role typically operates as a senior enterprise-level individual contributor, partnering across engineering, architecture, platform, and leadership teams without direct line authority. The scope spans quality strategy, automation modernization, delivery enablement, and systemic improvement across multiple domains and shared capabilities.
The Distinguished Quality Engineer is a director-equivalent individual contributor role focused on transforming how quality is engineered across the software delivery lifecycle. This role drives modern, automation-first practices, strengthens continuous validation, improves engineering feedback loops, and introduces scalable innovation—including practical AI-enabled approaches—to make delivery faster, more predictable, and more reliable.
Key Responsibilities
• Drive modern quality engineering practices by embedding continuous validation into delivery pipelines and reducing reliance on late-stage testing.
• Improve automation reliability, signal quality, and maintainability so teams can act on results with confidence.
• Introduce practical AI-enabled and data-driven approaches to testing, analysis, and engineering decision support.
• Identify and remove systemic constraints such as unstable environments, test data limitations, and unclear pipeline failure signals.
• Create reusable patterns, reference approaches, and technical guidance that can scale across teams.
• Provide technical leadership through credibility, collaboration, and deep engineering expertise rather than organizational authority.

• Teams release more frequently with fewer late-cycle surprises.
• Testing becomes faster, earlier, and more meaningful within engineering workflows.

Qualifications
• Typically 15+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, SDET, or Software Engineering.
• Proven success improving how teams build, test, and release software on a scale.
• Deep hands-on understanding of automation, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices.
• Ability to influence across teams and functions without direct authority.
• Comfort operating with both technical depth and enterprise-wide systems thinking.
• Experience introducing smarter, more automated, or AI-enabled approaches to testing and delivery is a plus.

- Uses technical expertise to lead the implementation of the current state strategy for Quality Engineering.
- Responsible for the development of the future state vision of the function, individually at the business unit level and in partnership for the organization. Provides guidance and advises on complicated technology issues for application development, implementation and automation.
- Provides application testing expertise and ensures required inspections are complete and validated to adhere to established company, industry, and regulatory standards.
- Drives automation efforts to deliver increased efficiency and standardization in testing methodology.
- Oversees and owns the timely and proper execution of the risk management program within Quality Engineering, including control ownership.
- Provides coaching, mentorship, and training to Engineering Managers and Quality Engineers.
