Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Quality Automation Engineer to join the Mist Engineering team. This role is ideal for engineers with strong software development and automation skills who are passionate about improving product quality through scalable test frameworks, intelligent automation, and rigorous validation.

While experience in Quality Assurance is valuable, we place greater emphasis on software engineering capabilities, particularly Python development, automation design, and problem-solving skills. Candidates with strong coding and cloud application experience who are interested in quality engineering are encouraged to apply.

U.S. citizenship is required for this role. This is an onsite position based in Cupertino, CA, requiring 5 days per week in the office, along with flexibility to attend meetings outside of standard business hours at least 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and tools using Python.

  • Create scalable automation solutions for validating cloud, web UI, and REST API functionality.

  • Develop test infrastructure to improve engineering productivity and product quality.

  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to identify, reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.

  • Analyze system behavior, logs, and telemetry to diagnose complex issues.

  • Build and maintain test environments, automation pipelines, and quality metrics.

  • Participate in feature reviews and provide feedback on testability and automation strategy.

  • Investigate customer-reported issues and reproduce problems in lab environments when required.

  • Continuously improve automation coverage, testing efficiency, and release quality.

  • Document automation solutions, test methodologies, and troubleshooting procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 2+ years of software engineering, automation engineering, quality engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of Python programming with demonstrated experience developing software or automation solutions.

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience validating REST APIs and web applications.

  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working independently and driving technical solutions with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Selenium, Playwright, pytest, or similar automation frameworks.

  • Experience with cloud-native applications and distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with Django, RESTful services, and modern web architectures.

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching).

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.

  • Experience supporting enterprise SaaS products.

What We Are Looking For

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong coding ability and software development fundamentals.

  • Ability to design and build automation, rather than simply execute existing test suites.

  • Analytical thinking and a passion for solving complex technical problems.

  • Self-motivation and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.

  • Curiosity, continuous learning, and ownership mindset.

  • Must be able to join team meetings three times a week during early or late hours to support international teams and customers.

  • No travel required for this role.
