Role Summary

  • The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading OmniCable's purchasing team and overseeing day-to-day procurement activities that support inventory availability, customer service, supplier performance, and company growth objectives.
  • This role provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight for buyers responsible for inventory planning, supplier management, procurement execution, and purchasing performance. The Purchasing Manager partners closely with Product Line Management, Procurement Operations, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and supplier partners to ensure inventory investments align with business objectives and customer demand.
  • The successful candidate will drive purchasing effectiveness through strong leadership, supplier collaboration, process improvement, and performance management while developing team capabilities and supporting OmniCable's long-term growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of buyers and purchasing professionals.
  • Establish team priorities, performance expectations, and operational objectives.
  • Support employee development, succession planning, and workforce capability building.
  • Conduct performance management activities and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Allocate resources and priorities to ensure business objectives are achieved.

Procurement Execution & Inventory Management

  • Oversee purchasing activities that support service levels, inventory turns, and working capital.
  • Ensure timely acquisition of products and materials required to satisfy customer demand.
  • Monitor inventory levels, forecasts, and replenishment activities.
  • Review and approve purchasing decisions consistent with company policies and team goals.
  • Resolve escalated purchasing and supply chain issues.

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships.
  • Participate with the PLM team with supplier performance reviews and business discussions.
  • Resolve escalated supplier issues involving pricing, service, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on cost savings and operational improvement opportunities.

Performance Management & Business Results

  • Monitor key purchasing KPIs, including inventory turns, service levels, supplier performance and budget attainment.
  • Analyze performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support annual planning, budgeting, and inventory investment strategies.
  • Develop action plans and drive accountability for operational and financial results.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify and implement improvements that enhance purchasing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partner with Procurement Operations to support process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote adoption of procurement tools, reporting capabilities, and operational best practices.
  • Support policy compliance and process governance standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Line Management, Procurement Operations, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams.
  • Support inventory planning, supplier strategies, and business growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Procurement Operations on data, reporting, systems, and process improvements.
  • Communicate business priorities and operational performance to leadership.
  • Support enterprise initiatives that improve service, profitability, and operational effectiveness.

Work Experience

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, supply chain, or related functions.
  • Prior leadership experience managing purchasing, procurement, or supply chain professionals.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles and procurement processes.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and performance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within electrical distribution, industrial distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain organizations.
  • Experience with Infor M3, Power BI, ERP systems, and reporting tools.
  • Experience managing inventory investments, supplier negotiations, and purchasing performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and process optimization.
  • APICS, ASCM, CPSM, or related supply chain certifications preferred.
