Description
The PL Policy Portfolio in USRM is seeking an experienced Product Owner to own and drive the Personal Lines Policy strategy. This role will directly own a Policy capability, providing value to key stakeholders across the value stream, including but not limited to Claims, Servicing, and Product. Operating in a modernizing and evolving policy platform environment, this Product Owner will think strategically about the future of policy capabilities while delivering near-term value through a well-managed, outcome-oriented backlog.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role requiring strong strategic thinking, stakeholder influence, and the ability to lead multiple squads toward a cohesive and forward-looking policy vision
This role has a hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite) for candidates based in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX, Indianapolis, IN and Columbus, OH. Otherwise, this role is remote
What You'll Own
  • Policy Product Ownership: Directly own and manage personal lines software products within a policy capability (Policy Lifecycle Management, Policy Issuance, or Policy Provisions Management)
  • Policy Strategy: Define and drive a short-term tactical and long-term strategic policy roadmap, aligned to organizational priorities, growing needs of other platforms, and the transformation of our policy ecosystem through the USRM Frontier program.
  • Multi-Squad Leadership: Lead multiple squads supporting the same software product, ensuring alignment, coherence, and consistent execution across teams.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Partner closely with Claims, Servicing, and other stakeholders to deeply understand their needs and translate them into clear, prioritized product direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understands how the Policy platform supports USRM PL business products. Defines, builds alignment, and drives execution on enhancements to the platform to support business product evolution.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, leadership, and Technology partners to create product vision and alignment with strategic priorities; communicates product and portfolio vision to squads and cross-functional teams outside the portfolio.
  • Owns and maintains a Policy software product backlog, accountable for its contents, prioritization, and acceptance criteria. Ensures clear, actionable user stories across multiple squads.
  • Develops and maintains both short-term (1-year / 4 program increment) and long-term (3-year) product roadmaps that reflect stakeholder needs, technical dependencies, and strategic platform direction.
  • Sets priorities and actively participates in squad-level and portfolio program increment planning. Collaborates with peer Product Owners and Policy Portfolio leadership to align cross-portfolio priorities.
  • Works daily with engineering squads, clarifying business requirements, leading agile ceremonies, removing roadblocks, and maintaining alignment around policy strategy.
  • Collaborates with technology partners and enterprise architecture to evaluate and evolve policy capabilities in alignment with the organization's platform modernization.
  • Monitors and maintains product health for owned capabilities, balancing short- and long-term costs with desired outcomes.
  • Applies data-informed decision making by analyzing feasibility, cost of delay, and other dimensions of planned or potential product changes; communicates trade-offs clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Sets and manages stakeholder expectations for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
  • Understands regulatory, compliance, and industry constraints relevant to the policy portfolio and prioritizes accordingly.
  • Contributes to customer-driven design and ensures the product remains well-positioned through obtaining feedback from consumers and taking best practices from similar platforms.

  • Experience with API products or platform data capabilities is a plus.
  • Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Strong strategic mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty.
