Product Owner- Learning Products (Nursing)

About the role

If you are a problem-solver who is looking to make a real difference in how nurses, nurse educators, and hospital administrators who use our Nursing digital products continue to benefit from the excellent content and workflow functionality offered in our point-of-care and point-of-learning solutions, we want to hear from you!

We are currently hiring a Product Owner responsible for executing strategic roadmap initiatives related to our Nursing learning portfolio (including Professional Development, Blended Learning, Journal CE, and Certification Review). The Product Owner will collaborate closely with Product Management and a multidisciplinary Agile team to deliver impactful product increments, maintain a well-prioritized backlog, and address issues and enhancements with clarity, urgency, and exceptional communication.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong systems thinking, disciplined backlog management, and an aptitude for guiding teams through complex challenges, shifting priorities, and high-volume demands. Success in this position requires establishing strong operational day-to-day frameworks: structured intake processes, rigorous prioritization, meticulous attention to Jira practices, concise stakeholder communications, and proactive risk mitigation.

What you’ll own (Outcomes)

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Maximizing product value delivered by your Scrum team through clear prioritization, decision‑making, and backlog ownership.

  • Maintaining a healthy, prioritized backlog that balances roadmap delivery, defects, support needs, and customer escalations.

  • Providing clear direction to Engineering, UX, and QA so the team can execute sprints with minimal ambiguity.

  • Identifying when delivery is off track (misaligned priorities, excessive WIP, blocker patterns, rising defects) and intervening early to restore flow.

  • Ensuring stakeholders understand what’s happening, why, and what’s next through proactive, structured communication.

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Agile Execution

  • Translate roadmap initiatives into epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that are clear, actionable, and outcome‑focused.

  • Own backlog ordering and ensure it is transparent, understood, and continuously refined.

  • Lead sprint planning readiness: ensure the team has a steady pipeline of “ready” work aligned to outcomes.

  • Partner with Engineering, UX, QA, and Product Management to clarify intent, assess tradeoffs, and make decisions quickly.

Systems Thinking + Operational Excellence

  • Build and maintain day-to-day operating system for: work intake, prioritization, WIP control, escalations, dependencies, and stakeholder updates rather than reacting

  • Detect when delivery is veering off track (blocked work, growing defects, unclear requirements, excessive WIP) and intervening early to restore flow.

  • Recognize patterns that indicate unhealthy delivery (e.g., constant re‑prioritization, unclear stories, backlog sprawl) and take corrective action.

  • Establish clear triage patterns for: defects, customer escalations, and support tickets; ensure the right work is prioritized at the right time.

Stakeholder management & communication

  • Serve as a go-to source for status and product detail such as communicating scope, tradeoffs, and timelines to stakeholders across functions.

  • Run a predictable communication cadence (e.g., weekly updates, release notes, escalation response updates) and set expectations proactively.

  • Manage competing stakeholder needs through transparent prioritization and clear expectation‑setting.

Tooling & Visibility (Jira at Scale)

  • Maintain excellent Jira hygiene: well-structured epics/stories, clear prioritization, and dashboards/reports that enable transparency and forecasting.

  • Enable predictable delivery by helping the team and stakeholders understand capacity and tradeoffs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 1-2 years in digital product delivery as a Product Owner / Business Analyst / Product Analyst (Agile/Scrum environment).

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume backlog and make prioritization of tradeoffs under pressure.

  • Strong stakeholder management and crisp written/verbal communication.

  • Hands-on experience with Jira for backlog management, sprint execution, and reporting.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working across multiple stakeholder groups.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting customer escalations, triaging issues/bugs, and partnering with Support/Success on resolution communication.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and/or privacy/security norms.

  • Familiarity with learning platforms (LMS), CE/credentialing workflows, or healthcare education products.

  • CSPO/PSPO (or similar).

  • Comfort using product metrics/analytics to guide prioritization and measure outcomes.

Travel up to 15% (if applicable).
