This position, within the Beyond the Core platform of the Global Chocolate Technology organization in Bournville, UK, offers the opportunity to work collaboratively to unlock growth opportunities by applying your expertise in food science and technology. You'll be an integral part of a team dedicated to embracing consumer-led innovation excellence and developing products that not only delight consumers but also support their well-being.
The role focuses on developing technologies to deliver elevated and delightful consumer experiences while supporting healthier snacking options. The team comprises members from both the Bournville and Thane R&D centres.
Working as part of a cross-functional team, you will deliver the RDQ activities required to complete new product/technology development, validation, and testing, with an emphasis on meeting the desired consumer experience. Another key aspect of this role involves developing products that align with evolving nutritional guidelines, including working towards compliance with nutrient profiling models such as HFSS (High Fat, Sugar, and Salt). You'll be instrumental in delivering superior new technologies and capabilities to our commercial partners and project teams.
How you will contribute
With the support and guidance of a manager, you will organise and execute projects in line with RDQ, marketing, and manufacturing requirements, effectively communicating status and risks. You'll play a key role in unlocking growth opportunities by ensuring our innovations are developed with the right ingredients and formulations to meet consumer needs and nutritional standards.
You will plan and conduct pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements, and development activities (e.g., product shelf-life testing, designing for quality, consumer test preparation, and nutritional analysis). You will also write technical reports that will require the analysis and interpretation of results and that lead to conclusions and recommendations and create and maintain accurate consumer-led specifications. This will contribute to delivering superior new technologies and capabilities within the Beyond the Core platform.

  • Food science or engineering, ideally in a fast-moving consumer goods market.

  • Working with teams and independently with the guidance of a manager. Collaborating effectively is essential to our success.

  • Leads small projects and contributes to cross functional teams.

  • Prioritising and managing activities within a project and different projects.

  • Identifying problems proactively and creating and implementing solutions independently and in guidance with stakeholders, whilst ensuring compliance to policies & procedures.

  • Applying fundamental technical understanding and curiosity to interpret and analyse data to reach clear conclusions.

  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing, including technical writing.

  • Putting the consumer at the heart of development activities and demonstrating an understanding of consumer trends related to health and well-being. This consumer-centric approach is key to embracing consumer-led innovation excellence.

  • Awareness of business partners and continues to build relationship network.

Strong learning agility, curiosity, proactiveness, and comfort with technology - including digital tools, machinery, and equipment - are essential.
Projects will vary from research and market analysis to pilot trials, testing at supplier facilities, and commercialization, with guidance from the manager or other technical experts. You will play a vital role in delivering superior new technologies and capabilities to the organization.

Practical skills and technical understanding of chocolate recipe, process, and development process will be valuable.
Education / Certifications:
Demonstrated first experience of practical application of theory in Food or engineering / scientific related discipline
Job-specific requirements:
Travel requirements: 5-10% within Europe.
