Global Atlantic, is looking for a Principal, Valuation and Approved Actuary to join the Bermuda Actuarial team. This role will be based in our Hamilton, Bermuda office and will lead the Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) valuation process and BSCR determination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the EBS Valuation team in producing Best Estimate Liabilities (BEL) and support Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement (BSCR) determination for all offshore entities.
- Serve as Approved Actuary and Head of EBS Valuation team.
- Partner closely with the Bermuda Embedded Value team on the production, analysis, and sensitivity testing of EV runs.
- Analyze and explain movements in BSCR and EV to management, translating technical results into clear, decision-useful insight.
- Deepen and enhance detailed analysis of valuation and capital results to support capital management and other strategic management decisions, going beyond standard reporting to surface trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Support Risk and other teams in calculating BSCR and other capital metrics under internal and external stress scenarios.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing EBS Valuation team, building actuarial talent through coaching, development, and strong technical leadership.
- Champion continuous improvement and the adoption of new technology across valuation and reporting processes, leading BEL valuation automation and driving efficiency gains across the wider EBS Valuation and EV workflows.
- Provide thought leadership to the Bermuda actuarial team and insights for management action related to the EBS framework and broader capital/value metrics.
- Support audit, regulatory requests, and other ad-hoc requests pertaining to BEL/BSCR and EV.
- Support onboarding of new deals assumed by the Bermuda-based entities.
- Act as liaison between the Bermuda Actuarial valuation team and the onshore Actuarial valuation team.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- 12+ years’ experience in the (re)insurance industry.
- FSA (or equivalent).
- Life and Annuity experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Bermuda EBS framework.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and US Stat relating to life and/or annuities preferred, but not required.
- Strong technical and communication skills.
- Strong Excel knowledge (Power Query is a plus).
- Strong leadership skills.
