The Role

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with a proven track record of building customer-facing AI agents to help us create the next-generation financial guidance experience for 10M+ SoFi members.

This role is central to SoFi’s mission of becoming the most trusted guide in helping members Get Their Money Right. As a Principal Engineer, you will define the architecture and technical strategy for our financial guidance agent and lead its implementation across multiple workstreams.

You will work cross-functionally with engineering, product, data science, design, and business teams to build a scalable AI Agent that delivers personalized, trustworthy, and actionable financial guidance at scale.

What You’ll Do
  • Define the technical strategy and architecture for AI Agent for Member, and lead cross-team system design and execution.
  • Define the evaluation strategy and lead the implementation of systems and processes to measure, monitor, and improve AI agent quality and reliability.
  • Drive quality, reliability, observability, safety and compliance of the AI Agent in a regulated environment.
  • Partner closely with product, data science, design, and business leaders to translate product vision into scalable systems
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, and elevate engineering excellence across the org
What You’ll Need
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years experience building AI Agents or platforms for millions of users.
  • Strong experience in building production AI Agents, including orchestration, evals, retrieval/grounding, and guardrails.
  • Strong expertise in system architecture, platform design, and cross-org technical strategy
  • Proven ability to lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives across multiple teams
  • A highly hands-on technical leader who leads by example and is willing to roll up your sleeves to design, prototype, and ship critical features in production.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
