The Role
As a Principal Billing Software Engineer I on this team, you will lead the design, development, and integration of Billing and Mediation Systems within a large-scale service provider platform. This role requires deep technical expertise in enterprise-scale billing systems, API integration, and event-driven architecture. The successful candidate will be both a hands-on engineer and a technical leader responsible for driving design decisions, leading implementation efforts, and mentoring a junior team of developers and engineers.
This is a high-impact role working cross-functionally with architects, DevOps, QA, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and observable monetization platforms.
  • Design integration solutions between billing platforms and mediation layers
  • Develop APIs and microservices for billing event processing and workflows
  • Normalize data from diverse sources using mediation platforms
  • Build components with TypeScript and Python, deploying in Kubernetes (EKS) via AWS CDK
  • Engineer fault-tolerant workflows using AWS services like SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB
  • Define architecture for abstraction and mediation between systems
  • Apply distributed system design best practices, including API versioning and error handling
  • Lead decisions on data models, messaging protocols, and storage options

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Technical skills:
    • Development experience in Angular and front-end web technologies
    • Expert knowledge and implementation with open source software such as Angular or React
    • Angular, Micro Frontends, RESTful Web services, GraphQL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Git, continuous integration testing, and Unit Testing
    • Java, Spring, Google Guice, JPA/Hibernate, Databases (Relational and NoSQL), RESTful web services, AWS, Micro services, Netflix OSS, Jersey, SOAP web services, Axis, JMS, ESB's, XML, XSD, XSL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Apache open source libraries, Maven, Git, Eclipse/NetBeans/IntelliJ, continuous integration testing, shell scripting, Ruby
    • Adhere to best practices for code development, version control, continuous integration/delivery, and test/build automation.
    • Comfortable defining and evangelizing mobile app and web technologies across the organization
    • Familiarity with dependency management and build systems like Maven and Ant
    • Experience working with open source software such as Spring, Google Guice, Guava, Tomcat, and NoSQL solutions
  • Skills:
    • Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to define and develop technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps, and practices.
    • Participate in collaborations with business and technical teams to review conflicts/gaps between functional goals and existing capabilities.
    • Thorough understanding of software engineering and object oriented design principles
    • Demonstrated in-depth and knowledge of front-end development across Java, mobile app and/or web technologies
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
    • Ability to take ownership and make technical decisions on software development projects
    • Ability to keep current with trends and technological innovations in the industry in order to contribute to the execution of proofs-of-concept for new approaches

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in telecom and digital platform monetization environments.
  • Experience with mediation platforms
  • Familiarity with data transformation pipelines, usage metering, and data aggregation techniques.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, CDK, EventBridge, and CDK
  • Experience using observability tools like Datadog, and Splunk.

The base pay for this position generally is between
$110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
