Supervises staff and coordinates monitoring of pawn shops and precious metal dealers for compliance with local and state ordinances. Reviews transaction reports and shop records, conducts inspections with detectives, identifies violations, investigates stolen property and firearms, runs criminal histories, places holds, and prepares investigative materials. Maintains databases and documentation, analyzes crime and administrative data, prepares reports, communicates with dealers and investigators, and presents evidence in court when necessary.

The purpose of this classification is to supervise the monitoring of County pawn shops and precious metal dealers to ensure compliance with applicable local and state ordinances.

Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes department workload; makes work assignments and develops work schedules; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; troubleshoots problem situations; and provides technical expertise.
Received and validates transaction reports from pawn shops and precious metal dealers; enters information into department databases; updates and corrects information; researches missing and/or incorrect information; and communicates with pawn shops and metal dealers regarding missing/incorrect information; and maintains related documentation.
Conducts shop inspections in coordination with detectives; verifies compliance with County and state laws regarding recording and reporting of transactions and employee permitting; reviews transactions and shop records; verifies proper finger printing, customer photos, serial numbers, item descriptions, etc.; identifies violations and needed corrective action; issues warnings, citations, training or education for violations; and prepares and presents evidence in Court as needed.
Investigates stolen items and guns; runs and reviews reports on stolen guns and stolen articles; places item on police hold with pawn shop or precious metal dealer; compiles and forwards information to investigating officer; and prepares and forwards authorization for release to pawn shop owner or precious metal dealer.
Researches and reviews pawn and precious metals files and databases for stolen property; receives requests from County investigators or other agencies; and forwards results to appropriate parties.
Compiles, monitors and analyzes various administrative, crime, statistical, and financial data; makes applicable calculations; performs research; analyzes data and identifies trends; and prepares or generates related reports.
Runs criminal histories on customers pawning firearms; reviews criminal histories for felony convictions; places hold on firearms sold by suspicious persons; and prepares and forwards investigative packet to detective as needed.
Maintains documentation on all unit activity; and prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, unit reports, statistical reports, pawn release forms, pawn histories, case notes, inspection memos, or other documents
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; two years of experience performing work comparable to that of an investigative aide for law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certifications Required:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license; and must possess and maintain certification as a Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center Basic Terminal Operator.
