About this opportunity:
Today, Ericsson owns one of the ICT industry's most valuable portfolio of patents. The global patent portfolio consists of 60,000 granted patents within the areas of cellular technology, consumer electronics, cloud, networks and beyond. Ericsson's Patent Creation Management is part of the global Ericsson GFGS IPR & Licensing Organization and is responsible for all inventions originating from all Ericsson R&D sites worldwide. The Patent Unit Continental Europe is part of the Ericsson's Patent Creation Management Organization and is responsible for providing IPR support for Ericsson's R&D centers on the continent of Europe and for all further IPR related tasks.
We are now expanding our team in Aachen, Germany, and are looking for motivated patent professionals who want to contribute to one of the industry's largest and most valuable patent portfolios. The role is open both to young professionals at the beginning of their patent career and to more experienced patent professionals, including candidates who are qualified, partly qualified, or currently progressing towards a German or European Patent Attorney qualification. You will join a company dedicated to research and innovation, leading the development of cellular technology including 5G, 6G and beyond.
What you will do:
- Provide IPR support for Ericsson's R&D operations by working closely with inventors, technical experts and innovative technologies, with a particular focus on building a world-class patent portfolio.
- Take responsibility for a patent docket appropriate to your experience level, including evaluating inventions, making value-based filing and prosecution recommendations, and drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
- Contribute to key projects supporting licensing and litigation, such as patent mining, business-driven claim chart generation, rebuttal work, technical discussions, and reverse engineering activities.
- Depending on your qualification, experience and interests, engage in patent portfolio management, oppositions and/or nullity actions to contribute to the value creation from Ericsson's patents.
- Engage in working groups and strategic projects to improve operations, processes and portfolio-related decision making.
The skills you bring:
- Excellent university degree in engineering, physics, computer science or a related technical field; experience as an inventor, in standardization, or in technical project work is an advantage.
- Interest in, and ideally understanding of, telecommunication technologies, cellular standards, networks, cloud, software or related ICT fields.
- German or European Patent Attorney qualification, partial qualification, or ongoing preparation towards such qualification is highly welcome, but not mandatory for young professionals with strong technical and analytical skills.
- Professional experience in patent drafting, prosecution, portfolio management, oppositions, litigation support or licensing-related patent work is an advantage and will be reflected in the scope of responsibilities.
- Strong commitment to actively and systematically using modern digital tools, including AI-based drafting, analysis, search, workflow and portfolio-management tools, across all relevant areas of patent work to improve quality, efficiency and value creation.
- Strong coordination and communication skills, accuracy, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent analytical skills, sound judgment and a solution-oriented working style.
- Very good language skills in English; German language skills are a plus.
