Operations Engineer
Fabri is seeking a hands-on Operations Engineer to join our fast-growing foundry team.
The Company
Fabri is an early-stage investment casting startup building a fully integrated digital foundry. Our mission is to deliver precision metal castings with unparalleled speed and cost-effectiveness. By leveraging our exclusive high-throughput additive manufacturing process and AI-driven design software, we can deliver castings in days, saving our customers critical time and money. We are well capitalized and backed by top-tier investors and major customers, with significant funding raised in the past year. We’re shipping parts to several prime contractors and are deeply engaged in several long-term aerospace projects.
The Role
The Operations Engineer will own the sustaining engineering functions that keep our foundry running safely, efficiently, and at high quality as we scale. Working directly with Fabri's production, metallurgical, quality and engineering teams, the engineer will drive continuous improvement, specify and oversee equipment, validate processes, lead our 5S program, develop work instructions, and plan capacity expansion to meet growing customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
Lead continuous process improvement across the investment casting process, using data, root cause analysis and Lean tools to improve yield, cycle time, cost and quality.
Develop specifications for new production equipment; evaluate vendors and quotes, and oversee procurement, installation, commissioning and acceptance.
Provide sustaining support for existing equipment, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance programs and spare parts planning.
Lead the foundry 5S program, including training, audits, visual management and sustaining activities.
Develop and maintain clear work instructions, standard operating procedures and visual aids; train operators and verify adherence.
Work with all departments to plan and implement capacity expansion, including capacity modeling, bottleneck analysis, floor layout, and equipment and staffing requirements.
Support nonconformance investigations and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with the Quality team.
Champion a safe work environment, including EHS compliance and risk assessments for new processes and equipment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or materials engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience as a manufacturing, process or operations engineer in a foundry, metals processing or other manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience specifying, procuring and commissioning production equipment.
Working knowledge of process validation methods and statistical tools (SPC, DOE, capability analysis).
Experience writing work instructions and training operators.
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working hands-on on the production floor.
Preferred skills/experiences:
Experience with investment casting or other metal casting processes.
Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (AS9100, ISO 9001, Nadcap, etc.)
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma training or certification; experience leading 5S programs and kaizen events.
Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks or similar) for fixture design and facility layouts.
