GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

The Network Engineer II is responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, installing and supporting American Equity's network infrastructure. The incumbent designs, installs and documents LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and network segments including on premise and cloud network infrastructure.

***This position is located in West Des Moines and requires being in the office at least 2-3 days/week***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Performs network design, implementation, and administration.
  • Creates and maintains network diagrams and documentation.
  • Analyzes and monitors network security and implements patches and fixes to address potential security holes.
  • Configures and conducts Network performance monitoring to analyze and isolate issues.
  • Performs upgrades and patches on new applications and equipment.
  • Interacts with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure products and services.
  • Creates technical support documentation for systems and applications.
  • Implements and manages disaster recovery.
  • Provides on-call networking technical support.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; plus five (5) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto systems
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google PaaS network infrastructure 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS: 

  • Able to obtain CCNA, Network+, and Security+ (or equivalents) within 6 months of obtaining position
  • Ability to obtain and keep current certifications in vendor products such as Cisco.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   

  • Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
  • Ability to understand concepts and troubleshoot public cloud provider PaaS network infrastructure.
  • Attention to detail and excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for network connectivity.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Initiative and innovation in improving work processes.
  • Professionalism, follow-through and the adaptability to change, delays and unexpected events.
  • Familiar with using APIs for scripting and automation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with co-employees, customers, and other outside third parties.
  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
