Job Purpose

The Marketing Copy Editor & Proofreader provides editorial governance and quality oversight for marketing content across traditional and digital channels. The role independently reviews and evaluates content for clarity, accuracy, audience appropriateness, readability, structure, messaging flow, tone, brand alignment, and adherence to approved legal, regulatory, product, and client requirements.

Working across multiple lines of business and competing priorities, the role regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment when established guidance does not clearly dictate the appropriate editorial outcome. The incumbent advises stakeholders on brand and editorial standards, recommends substantive revisions, and is expected to influence final Assurant-branded deliverables through recognized editorial expertise.

The role applies approved legal and compliance direction rather than independently interpreting legal requirements. For client-branded materials, the role recommends edits consistent with the client's voice and tone guidelines, while the client retains final authority for its brand.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a strategic editorial governance resource, supporting the development and maintenance of editorial standards, style guide interpretation, and quality benchmarks across the marketing content team.

• Independently evaluates marketing content for quality, audience appropriateness, readability, structure, messaging flow, tone, clarity, and alignment with applicable Assurant or client brand standards.

• Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment when guidelines do not clearly dictate the outcome, including while managing a high volume of work, competing priorities, and differing requirements across lines of business.

• Determines and directs substantive editorial revisions for Assurant-branded materials related to voice, tone, mechanics, grammar, syntax, structure, and clarity. Stakeholders are expected to align with the role's editorial recommendations when those recommendations apply established Assurant standards.

• Provides substantive consultation to business stakeholders regarding editorial governance and brand inconsistencies. Applies legal and compliance edits based on direction or approved guidance from Legal, Compliance, Advertising, and filed product information; the role does not independently provide legal or compliance advice.

• Balances business, regulatory, client, product, and brand considerations against approved guidelines and stakeholder requirements while maintaining the integrity and marketing lens of each deliverable.

• For client-branded materials, recommends edits consistent with the client's approved voice and tone guidelines; the client retains final decision-making authority for its brand.

Proofreading and Technology Governance - 45%

• Proofreads and fact-checks marketing materials for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, AP Style, approved product information, and adherence to established compliance and brand guidance.

• Independently works with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to resolve editorial questions, incorporate changes, document proofing comments, and confirm that content is current and accurate.

• Makes independent decisions within approved parameters regarding voice, tone, mechanics, brand standards, legal or regulatory edits provided by authorized reviewers, filed product constructs, and defined client requirements.

• Maintains Jasper AI knowledge base assets, including approved source materials, product details, messaging guidance, brand voice references, and content examples, to support accurate and consistent AI-assisted content development.

• Explores, tests, and documents practical Jasper agent use cases to streamline research, content review, message refinement, and recurring workflows while supporting responsible AI adoption.

Subject Matter Expert - 10%

• Serves as an editorial subject matter expert whose recommendations are routinely relied upon by copywriters, marketers, and other stakeholders for questions involving content quality, grammar, punctuation, branding, style, tone, voice, and editorial standards.

• Partners with line-of-business marketers and the content team to understand business objectives, key messages, product information, audience needs, and project requirements.

• Resolves editorial issues independently through stakeholder consultation. Escalates disagreements or material misalignment to the manager when the editor or proofreader and stakeholder cannot reach consensus, or when a decision falls outside approved guidelines or authority.

• Serves as the subject matter expert for Jasper AI content governance by validating use cases, establishing knowledge base maintenance standards, documenting guidance, and supporting responsible adoption across the content team.
