JOB SUMMARY

Provides engineering and analytical support for ERCOT's wholesale electricity market and grid operations. Builds and validates power system models, applies electricity market theory to understand market behavior, and monitors market performance. Works with internal teams, Market Participants, PUCT, and other stakeholders to maintain market consistency and stability, and to recommend, test, and implement improvements to ERCOT's wholesale market systems and design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor and analyze ERCOT's wholesale market; recommend design and system improvements

  • Build and maintain expertise in the wholesale market and grid operations to support Market Participant needs

  • Investigate and resolve issues in the wholesale market and grid operations, applying power engineering knowledge

  • Generate and maintain market reports per protocol requirements

  • Develop new tools and methods for data acquisition, reporting, and analysis

  • Perform engineering studies using ERCOT network models to evaluate system conditions and events

  • Test and validate changes to market applications

  • Support management and senior staff in providing technical guidance to PUCT, industry groups, and stakeholders

  • Attend stakeholder, industry, and PUCT meetings

  • Address and help resolve Market Participant questions and disputes related to daily market and grid operations

  • Build strong working relationships across internal departments

  • Escalate issues to the Supervisor/Manager as needed

SCOPE BY LEVEL
  • Level I: Works under guidance and assists senior team members. Attends stakeholder/PUCT meetings under direction of management. Assists with issue resolution with guidance.

  • Level II: Works independently on most issues. Attends stakeholder/PUCT meetings and provides input as needed. Anticipates and resolves issues independently.

  • Level III: Works independently and may lead resolution of complex issues. Represents the team at stakeholder/PUCT meetings and provides input proactively. Anticipates and resolves issues, and mentors others.

REQUIREMENTS

Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience (in excess of degree requirements above)

  • Level I: Less than 2 years working experience in the electric utility industry

  • Level II: Minimum 2 years working experience in the electric utility industry

  • Level III: Minimum 3 years working experience in the electric utility industry

Technical Skills

  • Proficient with common business applications such as SQL, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong preference for Python skills (e.g., data analysis, automation, or scripting experience).

Expected Salary Range:

$87,000 - $120,000
