Manager, Employee Relations
Please note that this role is only available in the following locations: Madrid in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office three days a week.
The Manager, Employee Relations role sits within our People and Places organization and will contribute to our employee experience by providing regional expertise, supporting employee relations, performance management, and coaching and influencing leaders.
You will own collective labor relations topics, drawing on your expertise in Works Councils (Betriebsrat), Comités de Empresa, underperformance policy, process, and outcomes, organizational transformation, structural and change consulting, investigation case ownership, mergers and acquisitions support, and local compliance frameworks and implementation.
This role will actively support business leaders and employees, understanding risks, building positive employee relations and supporting organizational effectiveness through effective labor relations strategies, whilst ensuring compliance with local employment legislation.
In this role, you will :
Serve as the primary Employee Relations and Labor Relations lead for Germany and Co-Lead for Spain, and partner with representatives on consultations, labor negotiations and workforce-related programmes
Lead relationships with Works Councils (Betriebsrat) in Germany and Workers' Representatives (Comités de Empresa) in Spain, ensuring effective consultation, communication and compliance with statutory requirements.
Understand business processes, objectives and challenges to proactively build solutions or find improvements
Monitor and gain deep understanding of the policies, practices, trends and information that impact the organization and its employees to plan and anticipate for the future (i.e. site vibrancy)
Help employees explore and understand their wider business challenges
Coach leaders on performance management topics, supporting excellence across our teams
Participate in resolving more complex employee relations issues by gathering pertinent information through interviews and investigations; preparing documentation associated with employment claims; and proposing resolutions.
Build stakeholder trust by effectively addressing concerns to further long-term interests
Proactively observe legal and regulatory changes in requirements, and ensure adherence (e.g. reporting mandates, compliance requirements, labor law changes)
Represent the organization in contract negotiation, negotiated agreements and with external regulatory bodies where necessary
Partner with Employment Legal Counsels on complex legal matters, collective consultation processes and employment-related decisions.
Experience and qualifications:
5+ years of demonstrated experience managing Employee and Labor Relations in Germany and Spain
Proven experience working with Workers Councils (i.e. Betriebsrat in Germany, and Comités de Empresa in Spain)
Strong knowledge of German and Spanish employment legislation, representation frameworks and labor relations practices
Experience leading or supporting collective bargaining negotiations and the administration of agreements in Germany and Spain
Experience managing union relationships and resolving Labor Relations issues in unionized environments
Experience leading investigations, performance case-management, legal case-management and delivering expertise in local employment law practices
Demonstrated ability to advise, influence and coach leaders on complex employment issues, performance trends, and organizational change
Experience managing union relationships and resolving complex labor relations issues in unionized environments.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
