YOUR MISSION

We are revolutionizing spacecraft systems and are searching for candidates passionate about hands-on engineering and advancing new technologies in space. As a Machine Shop Production Engineer, you will own the production engineering strategy and execution for machined components from receipt of raw material through final inspection. You will lead machine shop operations, documentation, capacity planning, process optimization and partner with design engineering to drive manufacturability from concept through high-rate production.  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead machine shop operations to achieve throughput and cost objectives 
  • Create detailed manufacturing plans and work instructions to define sequence, details, and requirements for machining, inspection, heat treatment, coating, and outside processing. 
  • Lead equipment selection, installation, qualification, and maintenance activities 
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, management of metrics, root cause and corrective actions, creation of standards and documentation, the management of in-process inventory and consumables. 
  • Collaborate with machinists to align on machine selection, tooling requirements, work holding, and process strategy. 
  • Lead new-product introduction, participate in first-time builds, coordinate first-article inspections and support process qualifications. 
  • Drive technical reviews with design engineering to ensure the design is optimized for machining 
  • Develop trades and solutions for tooling, fixtures, automation, and equipment 
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machine shop personnel and engineers 
  • Drive engagement with Supply Chain to ensure materials are available 
  • Directly support production on the floor to ensure non-conformances are addressed 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace engineering or related field. 
  • Experience in machine shop operations for aerospace, defense, or high-reliability systems commensurate with the level of responsibility. 
  • Extensive hands-on experience with CNC programming(Mastercam, NX, Esprit Edge, Fusion 360 or similar CAM software) 
  • Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) 
  • Experience in selecting and commissioning equipment to enable production 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to influence design decisions, drive cross-functional alignment, and present technical information to diverse audiences. 
  • Experience working to AS9100 process and standards.  

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Hands-on experience with CNC machining, inspection methods, mechanical assemblies, and manual fabrication methods (cutting, drilling, shaping) 
  • Experience supporting new product launches or production ramp-up 
  • Understanding of surface treatments and finishing processes 
  • Experience with manufacturing simulation and digital twin technologies 
  • Familiarity of automation, robotics, and lights-out manufacturing  
  • Familiarity with CNC controls(Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.) 
  • Expert-level understanding of AS9100, PFMEA development, control plans. 
  • Experience with PLM, ERP, MES, configuration and data management systems 
  • Experience building and producing classified hardware in SCIF’s or SAP facilities 

COMPENSATION 

Base Salary: 

  • Machine Shop Production Engineer 3: $120,000-$160,000
  • Senior Machine Shop Production Engineer: $140,000-$195,000
  • Staff Machine Shop Production Engineer: $160,000-$215,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Long Beach, CA. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
