Job Description

The Logistics Analyst supports transportation operations, reporting, sourcing activities, and business decision-making through accurate data analysis and timely reporting. Working under the direction of the Director of Transportation, this role assists with Ocean Freight, Port and Rail Operations, Drayage, and Domestic Transportation activities.

The position collects, validates, and analyzes transportation data to support cost control, service improvement, visibility, and routine decision-making across MAT business units. The Logistics Analyst maintains dashboards and reports, monitors carrier performance, identifies data trends, and supports transportation improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate has foundational logistics knowledge, strong attention to detail, solid Excel skills, and the ability to communicate findings clearly while developing broader transportation expertise.

Principle Responsibilities

Transportation Analytics and Reporting

  • Maintain transportation dashboards, KPI scorecards, and routine reports using established templates.
  • Collect, clean, validate, and organize transportation data across Ocean, Drayage, Rail, Truckload, LTL, Parcel, and Intermodal modes.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages for review by transportation leadership.
  • Identify basic trends, exceptions, and data-quality issues affecting transportation costs and service.
  • Update business unit scorecards covering freight spend, cost per pound, ocean container costs, drayage costs, accessorial charges, carrier performance, and on-time delivery.
  • Assist with freight accrual, budget, forecast, and savings tracking.

Ocean Logistics Analysis

  • Track ocean carrier performance, transit times, allocation use, and contract-related data.
  • Monitor international freight movements and maintain shipment status reports.
  • Compile information on ocean market trends, carrier surcharges, port congestion, and benchmarks.
  • Assist with ocean carrier bid events, rate comparisons, and basic cost analysis.
  • Maintain ocean freight reporting and performance files for MAT business units.

Drayage, Port, and Rail Analysis

  • Track port, rail, and inland transportation activity using established reports.
  • Compile drayage carrier cost, service, and accessorial data.
  • Monitor detention, demurrage, chassis, storage, and other port-related expenses.
  • Flag unusual charges, delayed containers, and data exceptions for review.
  • Assist with drayage sourcing analyses and carrier performance reviews.
  • Maintain container dwell-time and bottleneck reporting.

Domestic Transportation Analysis

  • Compile and analyze Truckload, LTL, Parcel, and Intermodal shipment data.
  • Monitor routing guide compliance, carrier utilization, and transportation exceptions.
  • Assist transportation procurement activities through rate comparisons and benchmarking.
  • Support basic lane, mode, and cost analyses under guidance.
  • Measure carrier performance against established service and cost expectations.
  • Summarize findings and recommend follow-up actions for manager review.

Executive and Business Unit Support

  • Prepare data, charts, and supporting materials for presentations and business reviews.
  • Summarize transportation data into clear observations for manager review.
  • Respond to routine data requests from Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Procurement, and business units.
  • Assist with annual operating plans, forecasts, and budget support.
  • Maintain simple cost models and savings trackers using established assumptions.

Strategic Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Support transportation improvement projects and assigned workstreams.
  • Identify repetitive reporting tasks that may be improved or automated.
  • Assist with data maintenance and testing for FreightPop, BluViz, Xeneta, freight payment systems, SAP, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Complete assigned analyses and maintain project documentation.
  • Track approved savings initiatives and supporting documentation.

Qualifications

Technical and Analytical Skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup formulas, charts, and data cleanup.
  • Basic familiarity with Power BI or another data-visualization tool; willingness to learn dashboard development.
  • Experience working with business systems, spreadsheets, and moderately large datasets.
  • Basic cost analysis, reporting, and data-visualization capabilities.

Transportation Knowledge

  • Foundational knowledge of transportation modes such as Ocean Freight, Drayage, Truckload, LTL, Parcel, Rail, or Intermodal.
  • Basic understanding of freight rates, accessorial charges, transit time, and carrier performance.
  • Ability to connect transportation data with cost and service outcomes.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • One to three years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, data analysis, operations, or a related field; relevant internship experience may be considered.
  • Experience organizing data and preparing recurring reports.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Power BI, SQL, or another reporting tool.
  • Ability to prepare accurate information and concise summaries for manager review.

Preferred

  • Internship or work experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, or supply chain operations.
  • Familiarity with FreightPop, SAP, Xeneta, BluViz, or similar transportation technologies.
  • Exposure to transportation procurement, rate analysis, or carrier management.
  • Coursework or certification related to supply chain, analytics, Lean, or Six Sigma.

The posted salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,0000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
