The Trade Compliance & Logistics Analyst supports domestic and international freight operations by managing freight execution, compliance activities, cost controls, and carrier coordination. This role partners closely with PC&L, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Purchasing, and external freight forwarders to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective freight movement, tracking duties and reimbursement while supporting customer and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Trade Compliance 

  • Coordinate HTS classification support for new programs and items outside the normal scope in partnership with Global Trade Solution Provider. 
  • Support C-TPAT compliance activities and related documentation. 
  • Coordinate USMCA data, certificate distribution, and customer requirements with Global Trade Solution Provider. 
  • Maintain accurate records of all inventory movements into and out of the zone in full compliance with CBP requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by governing documentation for all inbound and outbound zone transfers
  • Manage country-of-origin declarations and foreign trade correspondence. 
  • Support U.S. Customs ACH audit reviews, including coding validation and correction of invalid Importer of Record assignments. 
  • Review shipping documents, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and customs paperwork, for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Maintain organized customs documentation and support audits of supplier and broker records. 
  • Escalate identified compliance concerns to management in a timely manner. 

Freight Operations and Carrier Management 

  • Provide daily inbound and outbound freight support to maintain uninterrupted material and product flow. 
  • Recommend lanes, service levels, carriers, and consolidation opportunities that support operational and cost objectives. 
  • Provide freight-cost estimates for new supply chains in collaboration with international freight forwarders. 
  • Coordinate customs requirements, shipping documentation, freight transfers, and logistics setup for new products. 
  • Administer premium-freight logs and participate in escalation calls with freight forwarders. 
  • Research and resolve lost, delayed, or otherwise disrupted shipments. 
  • Support carrier pricing discussions and cost-saving opportunities. 
  • Work with the transportation team and 4PL provider to resolve freight-management issues. 

Cost Management and Financial Administration 

  • Analyze international freight costs, service levels, and rates to reduce total acquisition cost. 
  • Review and process freight invoices through U.S. Bank systems, including non-compliance review, approval, and dispute resolution. 
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for Finance, including GL account assignments, P&L input review, duties, freight costs, and audit findings. 
  • Partner with Accounting to establish freight budgets and review monthly invoice accuracy. 
  • Manage freight claims and track duties paid, including support for customer recovery submissions. 
  • Track and report premium-freight costs in accordance with IATF 16949 requirements. 

Inventory and Cross-Functional Support 

  • Approve shipment authorization for international ex-works suppliers. 
  • Evaluate supply-chain constraints and identify opportunities to reduce freight cost, inventory, delivery lot sizes, and manual effort. 
  • Establish release methods for Kanban items with a focus on automation and process efficiency. 
  • Provide MRP and Purchasing teams with feedback regarding supplier performance and supply issues. 
  • Provide freight data and support to Finance, Purchasing, Engineering, and other functional teams, including supplier engagement. 
  • Participate in the North America Freight Team and support continuous-improvement initiatives. 

Safety and other General Responsibilities 

  • Follow health, safety, environmental, PPE, housekeeping, and plant code-of-conduct requirements. 
  • Attend required safety and health training and support consistent application of established procedures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in international trade operations, customs, or supply chain compliance role
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) preferred
  • Experience working with global team, Freight forwarder and 4PL (4th party provider)
  • Ability to travel 5-10%

     

KEY JOB SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Working knowledge of customs regulations, HTS classification, country of origin, USMCA, C-TPAT, and international freight processes. 
  • Proficiency in data analysis and Microsoft Excel; advanced Microsoft Office skills preferred. 
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP or Oracle experience preferred. 
  • Ability to interpret shipping and customs documents with strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow standard procedures, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
