Team Overview
TransUnion is seeking a highly technical Lead Engineer, AI Platform & Innovation to lead the development, adoption, and scaling of AI-powered capabilities across the enterprise. This role will serve as a technical leader responsible for driving innovation through the design and implementation of AI-enabled applications, developer tooling, platform services, and engineering frameworks that accelerate organizational adoption of artificial intelligence.The successful candidate will operate across platform, architecture, and application layers, partnering closely with engineering, product, data science, security, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant AI solutions. This individual will combine deep knowledge of TransUnion's products, data assets, services, and technology ecosystem with modern cloud-native architectures and AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering effectiveness, delivery speed, and business outcomes.
As a technical leader, this role will mentor engineers, establish engineering standards, shape AI strategy, and ensure AI capabilities are integrated consistently across TransUnion's technology landscape. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications and platforms.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead for large-scale initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying AI/ML or Generative AI solutions in production environments.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Proven experience designing distributed systems, microservices architectures, APIs, and event-driven platforms.
- Strong software development experience in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, Go, or TypeScript.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence technical and business leaders.
- Experience working in highly regulated, security-conscious, and data-intensive environments.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related field.
- Experience working within credit reporting, financial services, fintech, identity, fraud, risk, or data analytics industries.
- Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic AI architectures, vector databases, and orchestration frameworks.
- Experience developing enterprise AI platforms, developer portals, internal AI assistants, or AI governance solutions.
- Knowledge of MLOps platforms and model lifecycle management practices.
- Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and platform engineering frameworks.
- Familiarity with responsible AI, AI governance, model risk management, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Amazon Q, or equivalent platforms.
- Cloud certifications and architecture certifications from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience driving enterprise-wide technology transformations and platform modernization initiatives.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
Deep expertise in enterprise-scale software engineering, including the design, development, and operation of highly available, distributed, cloud-native applications and platforms.
Strong understanding of AI and Generative AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, agent-based architectures, and AI application development patterns.
Proven experience architecting and building reusable platform capabilities, APIs, frameworks, developer tools, and shared services that enable broad adoption across engineering organizations.
Extensive knowledge of cloud platforms and modern engineering practices, including AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, DevSecOps, and observability.
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI solutions into enterprise applications and business processes, balancing innovation, scalability, security, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Experience establishing technical architecture standards and engineering best practices, including secure software development, testing strategies, code quality, governance, and operational excellence.
Hands-on experience leading technical teams and large cross-functional initiatives, providing architectural guidance, mentoring engineers, and driving delivery across multiple teams and business domains.
Knowledge of data engineering, data platform integration, and AI governance, including data security, privacy, responsible AI principles, model evaluation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence engineering, product, architecture, security, and executive leaders while driving adoption of strategic technology initiatives across the enterprise.
