What success looks like in this role:
Lead Cloud Migration Architect – Enterprise Architecture & Migration Strategy
Location: Australia (Customer Site) – Canberra
Security Clearance: NV1 Security Clearance (Mandatory)
Role Purpose
The Lead Cloud Migration Architect is the owner of the technical outcome for a wave-based application migration and modernization programme delivered across Azure and AWS cloud platforms, working alongside the Project Delivery Lead, who holds ultimate ownership of the programmed overall. This role functions as the programme's enterprise architect, owning the alignment of the migration approach and tooling/AI usage with the customer's business needs, policies, and procedures across application, infrastructure and cloud, data, and business architecture, and working closely with the Security Lead to ensure the same alignment holds for security architecture.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Extensive years of experience as an enterprise or lead architect on large-scale, complex application migration programmes to Azure and AWS target clouds.
Demonstrated depth and breadth across application, infrastructure, data, security, and business architecture disciplines, not a single specialism.
Proven experience delivering architecture in high-security, complex environments, including government or similarly regulated sectors.
Track record of owning the technical outcome of a customer-facing programme alongside a delivery lead who owns the programme overall, with a clear division of accountability between the two.
Experience leading a team of architects across assessment, strategy, and design functions, including coordinating with a dedicated AI/Tools Architect.
Technical Knowledge
Deep working knowledge of Azure and AWS target-state architecture patterns, migration frameworks, and the 7Rs migration strategies.
Strong understanding of application architecture, cloud infrastructure architecture, and data architecture, with enough security architecture literacy to align closely with a Security Lead.
Working knowledge of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimisation, sufficient to provide informed input into a customer's FinOps function.
Expertise with AI-assisted migration and delivery tooling, and the governance considerations of introducing such tooling into a regulated customer environment.
Understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks and Architecture Review Board governance processes.
Leadership and Stakeholder Skills
Exceptional relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to earn trust with customer architects and architecture leadership.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills, capable of defending architecture positions to an Architecture Review Board and security function.
Ability to lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team of architects while remaining hands-on with technical detail.
Strong judgement in balancing innovation, cost, security, and delivery pace when making architecture decisions.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
