We're looking for an intern to join our Information Technology Team! In this role, you will support daily IT operations while playing a critical role in a high-priority project to audit, consolidate, and secure our Active Directory (AD) environment. Working within the Technology organization, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to support enterprise systems, strengthen access management practices, and improve operational standards. In addition to the core Active Directory project, you will support day-to-day IT operations to gain hands-on experience in enterprise support environments
 

What you’ll do at Avant:

• Assist in managing and maintaining Active Directory, including user account creation, group management, password resets, and access control

• Provide first-line technical support to employees by troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues

• Help document IT processes, common issues, and resolutions to improve team efficiency and knowledge sharing

• Support system maintenance tasks such as device setup, software installations, updates, and security best practices

• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with senior IT staff to improve internal systems and user experience

• You are pursuing (or recently completed) a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field

• You have a strong interest in systems administration, identity and access management, and enterprise infrastructure

• You demonstrate analytical thinking and are comfortable reviewing system configurations to identify improvements in performance, structure, or security

• You have hands-on experience or academic exposure to Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), or similar identity platforms

• You understand (or are eager to learn) attribute-based access control, and automated provisioning concepts

• You have experience developing or experimenting with technical scripts or tools (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) to automate tasks

• You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly, and are comfortable explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• You are eager to contribute in-office and support operational IT tasks while leading a structured infrastructure project

This role is based on our downtown Chicago Office, located in the Merchandise Mart. We highly value collaboration and our hybrid schedule (M, T, Th in-office) enables flexibility to balance work and individual priorities.

Compensation Range:

The base salary range for this job is USD $24 - USD $26/ hour

Employees will be evaluated for any new role at their current level. Employees new to a role typically come in below the midpoint of the pay range. The posted compensation range is based on the level outlined in the job posting, and compensation decisions are dependent on each applicant's experience, skills and abilities.
