Intern - Data Platform Engineer (Lineage & Observability)

What's the role?We are looking for a Data Governance & Data Lineage Intern to support the design and implementation of a standardized enterprise data lineage model. In this role, you will work at the intersection of data engineering, metadata strategy, and Data Governance, contributing to the TraceCore initiative.  Key responsibilities include:

• Contribute to the development and refinement of the enterprise data lineage model
• Document data pipelines, transformations, and metadata flows across systems
• Support prototyping of lineage event collection using tools such as OpenLineage
• Create documentation, visualizations, and onboarding materials to support lineage and metadata adoption
• Assist in aligning metadata structures with governance and enterprise requirements
• Support onboarding of datasets and lineage metadata into tools like OpenMetadata

 You will help evolve our standardized lineage model—built around  Source, Feature, and Operation identifiers—and support efforts to improve visibility, transparency, and trust across our data ecosystem. Who are you?You are a curious and motivated student or recent graduate with an interest in data, metadata, and governance. You enjoy working with technical concepts and translating complex processes into clear, structured outputs.  To be successful in this role, you likely have:

• Foundational understanding of data modeling, metadata concepts, and ETL/ELT pipelines
• Basic knowledge of SQL and Python for working with data and simple automation
• Interest in or exposure to tools such as OpenLineage, OpenMetadata, dbt, or Airflow
• Familiarity with structured data formats such as JSON or YAML
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly through documentation or visualizations
• Strong attention to detail and a structured way of thinking
• Curiosity and willingness to explore complex systems
