New York Life Real Estate Investors ("NYL REI") is the real estate investment management division of New York Life Investment Management. NYL REI manages a portfolio in excess of $70 billion across real estate debt, real estate equity, and real estate securities. Within the equity portfolio, investments are held across New York Life's general account, separate accounts, an open-end core fund, closed-end value-add funds, debt funds, and co-investments.
The Investment accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions related to investment portfolios, joint ventures, and fund accounting. This involves performing reconciliations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, and managing our third-party property accountants/managers.
What You'll Do:
• Review monthly income distribution, capital funding and review monthly financial reports from third-party property accountants in accordance with GAAP.
• Perform monthly intercompany cash clearing reconciliation; quarterly capital funding reconciliation to fix asset reports and prepare quarterly Net Operating Income analysis.
• Understand SLR rent processes and be able to identify and resolve errors effectively.
• Collaborate with Asset Management, Property Management, Tax, and internal and external auditors to support audit and tax compliance activities.
• Analyze and resolve discrepancies in capital accounts, distributions, and partner equity transactions.
• Assist in process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency of accounting workflows.
• Maintain detailed documentation and ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies.
• Support ad hoc accounting projects and special assignments as needed.
What You'll Bring:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
• 1-4 years of relevant experience in investment accounting, fund accounting, or real estate accounting.
• Strong understanding of partnership accounting, and capital reconciliation
• Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi, or similar) and Microsoft Excel (advanced skills is a plus).
• Knowledge of GAAP and experience working with auditors.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities under deadlines.
Preferred:
• Experience with real estate investments or private equity funds.
• Familiarity with tax reporting requirements related to partnerships and LLCs.
• Experience with property level financials and reporting.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $75,000-$106,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
