The Role

Format Lead

Townsquare Media seeks a driven, innovative content leader to steer the direction and strategy of our Country radio brands and their companion websites. You will work with 70+ markets and Country brands to drive audience growth on-air and online, and partner with other Regional Content Directors to develop multi-platform strategies deployed across the network. The Format Lead coaches talent and local radio market brand managers to develop engaging content that builds audience.

The best person for this role is passionate about radio, the local media industry and their capacity to bring communities together. You should be highly adaptable and attentive to trends in local media, digital, radio and audio spaces. You’ll work creatively with stakeholders in our local markets as well as regional sales leaders, product developers and other team leaders at Townsquare to solve problems and develop multi-platform solutions. Responsibilities 

  • Partner with teams of local radio Directors of Content, Digital Managing Editors and on-air talent to develop compelling on-air and digital content for the local communities in our radio station markets
  • Coaching / motivating / supporting local market leadership and content creators, as well as national radio content talent.
  • Partner with our music format leads to ensure local markets adhere to best practices for on-air content
  • Coordinate with multiple teams of various backgrounds across the company to execute digital content strategies across our network of local websites
  • Train and mentor Directors of Content and Digital Managing Editors on digital and on-air best practices and content creation strategies
  • Strategize the development of content based on audience demand and search data
  • Monitor and analyze ratings and web traffic with the goal of improving performance
  • Utilize best practices for Search Engine Optimization and Social Media to drive audience
  • Inspire others to strive for excellence beyond their limitations 

Qualifications

  • Clear vision for the future of local content, a strong desire to win and the confidence to manage a strong, staff 
  • 7+ years in a content creation or strategy role in media, preferably in Country radio
  • 15% + travel to local radio markets
  • 3+ years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • On-air programming experience
  • Digital content creation experience
  • Track record of driving ratings or digital metrics success
  • Strong writing and communications skills 
  • Experience in a competitive and fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of digital assets 
  • Strong business acumen
  • Desire to win
