About Roca Alliances

Roca Alliances is a specialized recruitment firm focused on connecting top-tier talent with leading global technology companies. We partner with innovative organizations worldwide, helping them scale high-performing teams through strategic and tailored recruitment solutions.

Simpro Group is a SaaS leader in field service management (FSM). Simpro helps trades and field service businesses around the world manage jobs, people, and profitability. Our engineering teams — anchored by a world-class organization in Australia — have built FSM software that is trusted by thousands of businesses globally. We are now investing in a new engineering hub in Medellín, Colombia, and are looking for a Director of Engineering to build and lead this team.

 About the Role

We’re looking for a Engineering Manager that will be responsible for the management, development, delivery, and support of the Simpro suite of products. This is done by managing and directing the associated software development teams to deliver the strategies and achieve the goals set by the Directors and Executive Team.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on expanding the capabilities of the Simpro platform, with AI as a core lever to accelerate delivery and improve team velocity. You will hire and build the Medellín engineering team, and shape how that team uses AI-native development practices to ship faster and more reliably. You'll work in close partnership with our existing engineering organization in Australia, which has built and scaled the core Simpro platform. Your team will extend their work — taking on new product capabilities, accelerating roadmap delivery, and operating as a high-velocity engineering pod within the global org.

Key Responsibilities

·       Build the org: Recruit, interview, and hire the engineers, tech leads, and future managers of the Medellín engineering team.

·       Accelerate delivery with AI: Champion AI-first, AI-native development practices and tooling to increase development speed, improve code quality, and lift team velocity.

·       Build an in-office culture: Foster a strong in-office working environment that drives collaboration, learning, and innovation across the team.

·       Set the foundation: Establish engineering practices, tooling, coding standards, and delivery rhythms suited to a distributed, multi-region product organization.

·       Partner across time zones: Build a strong working relationship with engineering leadership in Australia to align on architecture, roadmap, and ways of working, ensuring Medellín integrates seamlessly rather than operating as a silo.

·       Own delivery: Take accountability for the Colombia team's contributions to the Simpro product roadmap, balancing speed with the quality bar of an established platform.

·       Shape culture: Instill an AI-first, high-performance engineering culture as the team grows.

·       Represent Colombia in the global org: Act as the voice of the Medellín team in leadership discussions and planning cycles across the Simpro engineering organization.

·       Scale responsibly: Design an org structure (squads, leads, career paths) that can grow the team over time while sustaining high velocity.Join a global engineering environment where innovation, collaboration, and scalability drive impactful technology solutions while accelerating your professional growth within an international tech company.

Requirements

·       Proven experience leading software engineering teams, ideally including experience building or scaling a new team, office, or function.

·       Strong hands-on technical background (full-stack, cloud-native SaaS) with the credibility to hire and evaluate senior engineering talent.

·       Experience building and maintaining cloud/SaaS solutions on AWS that scale reliably with high availability.

·       Experience working in a distributed/global engineering model, collaborating effectively across time zones and cultures — Australia/APAC experience is a plus. - A track record of hiring: sourcing, interviewing, and building strong engineering teams. - Demonstrated experience with AI-first or AI-native development practices and tools, and a track record of using them to improve delivery speed and team velocity.

·       Experience building strong in-office or in-person team cultures, and a belief in the value of in-person collaboration for learning and innovation.

·       Comfort operating with ambiguity and building structure where none exists yet. - Fluent English required, both written and spoken, given regular collaboration with global leadership and the Australia engineering organization.

·       Strong executive presence: the credibility, communication, and gravitas to represent the Medellín team in front of senior leadership and to influence decisions across the global engineering org.

·       Prior experience in FSM, vertical SaaS, or B2B software is a plus, but adaptability and leadership capability matter more than domain-specific expertise.

This role requires being in the office 5 days a week. Given the mandate to build a strong founding culture, scale the team, and ramp up quickly, in-person presence is essential in this stage of the team's growth — it enables faster hiring and onboarding, tighter collaboration, and quicker knowledge transfer as the team stands up.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

In your first year, you will have:

·       Hired and onboarded the founding engineering team in Medellín. - Established a working cadence and trusted partnership with the Australia engineering organization.

·       Introduced AI-first, AI-native development practices that measurably improve delivery speed and team velocity.

·       Built an in-office culture that fosters collaboration, learning, and innovation. - Shipped meaningful contributions to the Simpro product roadmap from the Colombia team.

Built the beginnings of a scalable engineering org structure and culture that can support future growth.
