Delivering decisive capabilities for space superiority.
The Role
The Power Systems Manager will lead a team in designing and delivering spacecraft power systems, managing technical execution, and ensuring designs are scalable and manufacturable.
Summary Generated by Built In

A new space race has begun. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build innovative technology that solves the next generation of engineering, manufacturing, and operational challenges for space security and sustainability.

OUR MISSION

The peaceful use of space is essential for continued prosperity on Earth—from communications and finance to navigation and logistics. True Anomaly builds innovative technology at the intersection of spacecraft, software, and AI to enhance the capabilities of the U.S., its allies, and commercial partners. We safeguard global security by ensuring space access and sustainability for all.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together

YOUR MISSION

As the Power Systems Manager at True Anomaly, you will lead the team responsible for designing, developing, and delivering spacecraft power systems — from solar arrays and batteries to power distribution and regulation. You will manage a team of electrical engineers, drive technical execution across multiple programs, and ensure our power systems scale reliably from prototype through production.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of power systems engineers, including hiring, performance management, and professional development
  • Own the technical roadmap for spacecraft power systems, including solar array design, battery management, and power distribution and regulation architectures
  • Drive design, analysis, and test activities for electrical power systems (EPS) across the full product lifecycle — from concept through production and on-orbit operations
  • Lead system-level trade studies balancing performance, technical risk, mass, cost, and schedule across power subsystem designs
  • Oversee power budget development, launch and tip-off power analysis, and on-orbit power generation and storage modeling
  • Ensure power system designs are scalable and manufacturable, partnering with production and manufacturing engineering to support build rate targets
  • Lead and present preliminary and critical design reviews for power subsystems
  • Develop and maintain failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and reliability analyses for critical power system components
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams — including mechanical, avionics, thermal, software, and systems engineering — to ensure integrated system functionality and resolve interface challenges
  • Define validation approaches and lead development and qualification testing campaigns, including environmental testing (EMI/EMC, thermal vacuum, vibration)
  • Establish and continuously improve power systems engineering processes, standards, and best practices to drive quality, efficiency, and repeatability
  • Support hardware through production, integration, and launch

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical or power systems engineering, with at least 2 years in a people-management role
  • Demonstrated experience designing spacecraft electrical power systems, including solar arrays, batteries, and power distribution units
  • Strong understanding of power conversion, regulation, and distribution architectures
  • Experience leading design reviews and managing engineering teams through full product development lifecycles
  • Hands-on experience with power system analysis tools and test equipment
  • Proven ability to balance technical depth with team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
  • Experience scaling spacecraft hardware from prototype to production
  • Familiarity with radiation effects on power electronics and mitigation strategies for COTS components
  • Experience with analysis and mitigation of spacecraft charging
  • Knowledge of EEE parts screening and qualification per NASA-INST-002 or similar standards
  • Experience with simulation tools such as LTSPICE, Python
  • Experience deploying power systems in LEO, MEO, or GEO environments
  • EMI/EMC qualification and mitigation experience (GSFC-7000/GEVS, MIL-STD-461)
  • Experience with harnessing design and fabrication
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting

COMPENSATION

  • Colorado Base Salary: $160,000-$220,000
  • California Base Salary: $165,000-$230,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance
  • Work Location—this role will be onsite at either our Centennial, CO or Long Beach, CA locations, with travel to other sites as needed.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.
  • Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving.
