Job Description
Develops designs for new products and revises designs for existing products, meeting established quality and performance standards, by applying basic engineering principles under moderate supervision. Documents, or oversees documentation of, new or revised designs. The position also serves as the Item Master Specialist for company ERP system responsible for maintaining item master, establishing product setups and ensuring product data integrity within the ERP system. This position will split time between product design and ERP tasks.
- Develops designs of moderate complexity from ideas or requirements as presented by engineer, needs statement, or project team, ensuring quality standards are met.
- Develops engineering layouts for projects of moderate scope and complexity, using appropriate Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Establishes initial multi-dimensional model base features, using tool.
- Analyzes designs for proper form, fit, and function, including basic manufacturability, assembly, disassembly, and use, using CAD tools or calculator, to ensure design and documentation of new and existing products meets established quality and performance standards.
- Assembles prototypes, using power and hand tools, moving parts weighing up to 75 pounds. Interfaces with production areas for information gathering and pilot development activities.
- Maintains item master in the ERP system and ensures data integrity and accuracy. Creates new items for raw materials, packaging, intermediates and finished goods in the ERP system
- Establishes bill of materials (BOMs) for intermediates and finished goods and coordinates product setups in the ERP system
- Contacts suppliers or manufacturing groups to obtain information related to fabrication of prototypes, application of materials and processes, and selection of purchased parts.
- Prepares engineering documentation including Change Notices, Bills of Material (BOMs), parts lists, engineering specifications, and other supporting forms, either manually, using PC word processing and spreadsheet tools, or CAD, to maintain clear project documentation.
- Provides time estimates for design activities and task related progress reports for current design projects to make necessary adjustments to meet time requirements.
- Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or service provided, to determine effect on ERP system.
- Audits Change Notices to ensure changes to ERP are properly captured and documented and appropriate specifications (CAD, Drawings, etc.) are associated to items prior to release.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in the Engineering Design field or equivalent + 2 years product design experience.
- ERP System experience required; Epicor/Kinetic preferred
- CAD or PC design experience required. Parametric-based systems CAD or PC design experience preferred.

- 4 year technical degree.
- ERP System experience required; Epicor/Kinetic preferred.
- CAD or PC design experience required. Parametric-based systems CAD or PC design experience preferred.

- 4 years of drafting experience and training.
- ERP System experience required; Epicor/Kinetic preferred.
