Role Summary

The Hong Kong & High Net Worth (HNW) Underwriting team is seeking a senior underwriting professional with strong expertise in life, critical illness, and health products.

This role leads the development and rollout of innovative insurance solutions, supported by robust risk controls to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.

As a key member of the Hong Kong Underwriting leadership team, the role also plays a critical part in strengthening RGA’s capabilities in underwriting solutions, underwriting excellence, and risk management, while leading a high-performing team and driving strong stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product & Underwriting Innovation - Drive development of innovative underwriting solutions and product designs in collaboration with Product Development, Pricing, and Business Development; Lead the team member(s) in Underwriting to identify and research new opportunities, developing them into concrete product designs or underwriting solutions; Ensure the implementation of innovative product solutions will drive profitable and sustainable growth for RGA and its clients; Provide medical and statistical insights to support pricing assumptions and product development; Review product design, policy provisions, treaties, and underwriting guidelines
  • Risk Management & Governance - Establish underwriting and claims risk management frameworks for new products; Ensure alignment with RGA’s risk appetite, underwriting philosophy, and governance standards; Partner with regional and global teams to assess risks and secure approvals
  • Research & Market Insights - Monitor medical and insurance developments to support innovative underwriting solutions, product innovation and pricing assumptions; Contribute to underwriting manuals and best practices
  • Innovation, Technology & Digital Enablement - Support Simplified Issue Option/ Guaranteed Issue Option (SIO/GIO) initiatives, process improvements, and alternative underwriting approaches; Participate and contribute in digital and AI-driven underwriting initiatives
  • Underwriting & Project Delivery - Lead or support strategic underwriting projects; Participate in case underwriting and provide best in class underwriting decisions as required
  • Client Engagement & Training - Engage clients to present solutions, address queries, and build strong relationships; Deliver underwriting and product training internally and externally; Represent RGA and present at client meetings, industry events and seminars, as required
  • Operational Excellence - Deliver high-quality, timely service to stakeholders; Travel as required for business activities
     

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in life, critical illness, or health underwriting
  • HNW and reinsurance experience preferred
  • Professional qualification (e.g., FLMI, ANZIIF, CII, ALU) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting and ability to translate insights into practice
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to interpret insurance contracts and technical documents
  • Self-motivated, agile, and collaborative team player
  • Strong presentation skills with client-facing experience
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (written and spoken); Mandarin preferred
