The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
Salary Range$139,400.00 - $230,000.00As Director of Data Engineering, you'll lead a dynamic DevOps team, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise. This player-coach role requires guiding teams through complex AI implementations while actively contributing to critical projects. You'll shape the future of AI adoption across the enterprise while building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams. In this highly visible role, we will look to you to:
• Build and maintain robust CICD pipelines that enable seamless deployment of AI/ML models and data solutions across the enterprise.
• Design and implement robust DevOps practices that support the entire application and model development lifecycle, from development to production.
• Play a key role in growing and transforming our analytics and technology infrastructure through automation and best practices.
• Lead a highly effective and responsive DevOps team in supporting a portfolio of applications across the EAI&ET value stream.
Champion cybersecurity, application compliance, and data governance policies across the value stream.What Will You Do?
• Lead and develop engineering teams transforming the insurance industry through AI, acting as a player-coach.
• Design, build, and maintain comprehensive CICD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and other automation tools to support continuous integration and deployment of AI/ML models and data applications
• Maintain hands-on involvement in engineering decisions, code reviews, and the development of automation and AI solutions.
• Partner with stakeholders across the enterprise groups to ensure our application and deployment pipelines align with strategic roadmaps.
• Contribute to engineering standards and best practices for AI development, deployment, and monitoring across teams.
• Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, conducting performance reviews and creating growth plans.
• Troubleshoot and resolve critical production issues, leading incident response when necessary.
• Champion uses of Artificial Intelligence across the enterprise through education, coaching, and advocacy.
• Manage resources effectively while balancing business objectives and the production of high-quality deliverables which adhere to standards and policies.
• 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to build relationships across the enterprise.
• Proven track record of implementing cutting-edge technology trends and techniques in AI and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), including Kubernetes, Python, Docker, AWS, LLMs, etc.
• Experience working with stakeholders to identify opportunities to educate on risks and opportunities in the delivery of AI-based solutions.
• Passion for Artificial Intelligence and for driving the adoption of AI-based technologies to improve business processes and outcomes.
• Critical-thinking engineering mindset and ability to identify and design solutions that simplify the application development lifecycle.
• Delivery - Advanced delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent systems.
• Problem Solving - Strong problem solver who utilizes data and proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult problems, reflects on solutions, measuring their impact, and uses that information to ideate and optimize. Also adept at making decisions that involve a significant number of factors with broad implications.
• Communication - Strong communicator who possesses the ability to describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand, document initiatives in a concise and clear manner, collaborate effectively with teammates and others regardless of role, quickly extract core issues from discussions and meetings, give and receive constructive feedback, offer help when asked, and ensure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts and are heard; an attentive and empathetic listener.
• Leadership - Advanced leadership skills with the ability to take action even when there is no clear owner, inspire and motivate others, and be effective at influencing team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Background CI/CD practice and automated testing tools.
• Experience with enterprise-scale AI implementations and both NoSQL and RDBMS databases.
• Proficiency with AWS infrastructure, including Sagemaker, Glue, Lambda, and EKS.
• Track record of successful stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
- 6 additional years of data engineering experience.
