Overview of Position
The Director of Accounting is a senior individual contributor responsible for driving accounting and finance initiatives that enhance financial reporting, business insights, operational effectiveness, and process scalability. The role combines strong accounting expertise, financial analysis, process improvement, and technology-enabled solutions to support business growth, new product implementations, system modernization efforts, and continuous improvement across the finance organization.
Although this role does not have direct people management responsibility, it requires strong leadership through influence, executive presence, and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across finance, operations, actuarial, claims, IT, and business leadership. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted finance partner who can translate complex accounting, operational, system, and data considerations into practical recommendations and scalable solutions, including supporting business requirements, process design, data readiness, testing, controls, user adoption, and post-implementation stabilization for new finance and accounting systems.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Project & Initiative Leadership
Lead or play a key role in cross‑functional projects, including system implementations, operationalizing new business contracts, and finance modernization initiatives.
Manage project scope, timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder communication.
Anticipate risks and proactively resolve issues to keep initiatives on track.
Process Improvement & Automation
Identify and implement opportunities to automate, streamline, and standardize accounting and finance processes using AI-enabled data analytics, workflow automation, anomaly detection, document intelligence, reporting automation, and close process automation.
Partner with IT and finance transformation teams on system enhancements, reporting automation, and workflow redesign.
Support the team through change management and the adoption of new tools/processes, including documentation of processes and controls to improve transparency, scalability, and audit readiness.
Ensure automation and AI-enabled solutions are designed with appropriate data quality, documentation, internal control, auditability, and governance considerations.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and prepare analytics to review monthly and quarterly financial results, including client level results.
Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, including variances, trends, and key drivers impacting business performance.
Support financial reporting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, internal policies, and insurance industry standards.
Leadership Through Influence
Serve as a trusted finance partner to senior leaders and cross‑functional stakeholders, influencing decisions through data, judgment, and credibility.
Lead discussions on accounting interpretations, financial impacts, and risk considerations.
Facilitate alignment across teams by proactively identifying issues, proposing solutions, and driving consensus.
What are the requirements needed for this position?
Education and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, ERP/reporting systems, and AI-enabled finance tools.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control concepts.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex work through influence, collaboration, and credibility.
Proven experience driving automation, process improvement, or finance transformation initiatives.
Advanced analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large or complex datasets into actionable insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership.

Pay Range:
$103,800.00 - $173,300.00Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
